We will be moving back to Baton Rouge area from Texas with two girls on gymnastics teams, nine year old level four and six year old level two. We would like some feedback on experiences with local programs such as Elite and Gymnasiana. We may live in Prairieville so AIM is possible or Livingston so any clubs in Livingston or Hammond area are also options.

Looking for positive programs which also develop athletes on a competitive level. Please refrain from petty bashing, just looking for confirmation of a positive environment .

I noticed whil working at Celtic Studios there is a gymnastics place next door. It looked pretty legit.

Didn't they train Carly Patterson ('04 Oly AA Champion) for a time?

Yea. I would drive to this one if you want to develop a competitor.

We enjoyed Gymnasiana for seven or eight years . They are under new ownership for the last year or so and will probably be more "highly competitive" than "highly positive". They really want you in their "home school" and really favor those girls who commit to that. We are an academic study hall kind of family, so we bailed. But those that are really "all in" might want to give Sabrina a call out there.

AIM and Elite are options. Being a Gymnasiana parent, all I heard was negative about them because women always hate every group that competes against their precious little daughter. Crazy over-the-top sports moms are a plague on the Earth.

Elite was meh, but AIM in Prairieville has been pretty good. Granted, my little one is 6 and only just learning, I'm happy with AIM over Elite.

Someone had mentioned Gymnasiana was developing a program for girls who were focused on really developing skill levels beyond the routine meet and had an interesting blend of academics and gymnastics. Not sure if mine would qualify but might be something to look at.

If anyone has had their kids experience this type program how did it work out? Seems like a big jump but worthwhile if your child is talented and committed.

Yes. If you want your kids to live a "gym first" life, Gymnasiana is your spot. They went "all in" a year ago with the "home school" stuff. A lot of gymnasts will come out of that place with their current philosophy. It was not compatible with our family philosophy though. Different strokes.

Thank you. I appreciate the insight. The girls have done well competitively, but not sure if full commitment is best. We will tour a few and get an understanding of how they operate and their philosophies.

We have considered home schooling anyway so this may be a nice tie in. Just have to see how it all functions. It is an intriguing concept.

Did you work for the studio or another company in the building?

OP, if you're in Prairieville, I'd go AIM based on the research we did for my daughter

My wife was a gymnast and is still pretty involved. She trained at elite, but the program has changed to the point that she doesn't feel comfortable putting our daughter there. Her friend, also a collegiate level gymnast really enjoyed Aim. Their daughter didn't like the pressure to move up in levels(much like Gymnasiana) so they quit. C.G.'s is highly recommended. Cypress Pointe in Ponchatoula is pretty solid and they have smaller classes.

Nah it was someone in BR. Maybe not arrested but outed as a creeper or banging a gymnast.
