Being poor sucks. If you are going to be poor then you gotta be tough.
Flying in comfort isn't a right. You can always choose to drive or take a train.

Their seats have a 28 inch pitch while AA and Delta's are 30 inches. Meaning the spirit seat you say is "great" is almost identical to an AA or Delta seat while the one in front of you is reclined.
Interesting, I just have never had my knees crushed while on a Spirit flight or I just didn't care since I was already in "vacation" mode by having a few drinks before the flight.

Why do the seats recline?
If the airline does not want you to recline your seat why does it have that function ?

Oh god, I'm not getting sucked into this again. Motherfrickers want to act like pushing the recline seat button ejects the person behind you and murders their entire family.
I'm 6'2" I always recline my seat, and I expect others will do the same.

You know it’s not hard to turn around and ask someone if it’s ok if you do it

Not at all.
If your knees are already cramped, then reclining in front of you makes it worse. As for me, I don't see any noticeable comfort increase.
That being said, doesn't bother me if others want to do it. Just explaining my reasoning.

Simple solution is to just ask permission before reclining. Or ask politely if they could not recline. People make such a big frickin deal out of nothing. We're living in a society of immature children.

Under 2 hour flight-not necessary
Over 2 hours-completely fine
That little bit of recline makes all the difference on flights to Europe when you are trying to sleep

I had my knees crushed just yesterday on my connecting flight by an inconsiderate a-hole on a little regional jet. The flight was 40 minutes. He could have done without reclining.
I fly a lot and choose to fly out of Jackson (1.5 hour drive) vs Monroe (20 minute drive) because Jackson has big jets with first class and Monroe doesn’t. If I don’t get an exit row or bulk head on a regional jet and somebody reclines I’m screwed.

That makes it really awkward when they say no, and I recline anyway...

I just ask for a warning before the person reclines. I've never asked someone not to recline. If I did, I'd probably offer to buy them a couple of drinks on the flight as a thank you.

So you agreed to fly on a little regional jet and blame the person in front of you for being cramped?
That's interesting.

Had a lady in front of me once that asked if she could recline her seat because she was recovering from knee surgery. I of course said she could, and she bought me a glass of wine during drink service.
That's the only time the person in front of me asked if they could recline their seat.

My wife is 5'2 so if the person in front of her reclines she doesn't care, but I'm 6'2 and have long arse legs so when a seat reclines it jams my knees. To prevent it I just buy an extra space or first class seat on any flight over 3 hours or so

Well, I agreed to taking my only option from Atl to Avl, which was a small regional jet. As is often the case.

What kind of shite company doesn’t make it to where you can upgrade? Do they not let you have the miles as well?
You should be able to go an and upgrade once the flight is booked and just do it on your personal dime if the comfort means that much to you.

No doubt. My point is perhaps you being cramped had more to do with the little jet than the person in front of you.

I don’t recline because I’m 4’9” and over-accommodating to a fault. I also don’t really care when someone reclines in front of me.
