I purchased a new truck last week and today I received a camera ticket in the mail that is tied to my old car and it's plates. Watch out for a camera on Carrolton at Palmetto, fyi.

Can they trace this to my new truck?

If you did not want to pay the fee, how would you go about dealing with this?

Pay the fee. Too much of a headache otherwise.

No, with NOLA camera tickets the motto is "New Plate, Clean Slate"

I'm in TX and had this happen to me, I called the DMV and after receiving a scolding for not taking my plates from the old vehicle at the time of the sale, I was directed to a site to fill out an on line affidavit sating that I no longer owned the vehicle and was given a reference number for future "violations," no problems, I even discussed it with a municipality that issued a camera citation and was told that you really don't have to do anything because it will eventually catch up to the perp whenever they try to register the car

I traded in my car and the dealership took the plates. Should I have taken them instead.

that's what the DMV told me but they also eventually said that as long as I could prove that I no longer owned the vehicle that none of the violations would come back to me, the girl I sold my car to has been on about a 3 year motor vehicular crime spree, stop lights, speeding, hit and run, etc., I haven't received anything in about a year now

Don't pay it. Even some of the politicians have stated do not pay traffic tickets.
