The Louisiana Secretary of State confirmed the recall petition was officially filed Friday. This means the clock has officially started on removing Cantrell from office. According to the Louisiana Secretary of State's Office, 20% of qualified electors, which are voters who can legally vote, need to sign the petition. There are 266,714 qualified electors in Orleans Parish. Of that number, a total of 53,000 signatures are needed. Those signatures are needed within 180 days of Friday. If that is achieved, the recall would go to the Registrar of Voters in New Orleans and from there Gov. John Bel Edwards would have to call a special election. If the signatures were successfully gathered, Cantrell would be allowed to appeal. An online petition had been making the rounds on social media, but the paperwork filed Friday makes the process official. That petition received more than 2,000 signatures. New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell's spokesperson issued a statement Thursday regarding the potential for a recall. “The mayor is working 24 hours a day, seven days a week to solve the problems of the city,” director of the Mayor’s Office of Communications, Gregory Joseph, said. Joseph spoke with WDSU about concerns from the public and chatter of a recall election. The office of the secretary of state said they have received no forms to start a recall.

Good. She's destroying the city.

Matt Bowers & Ronnie Lamarque should fund this.

this is going to get really spicy in a few years when we learn how much she has embezzled from the city all while still avoiding paying taxes

This will go nowhere. NOLA is too full of stupid white people who see only a black woman mayor, not an incompetent nincompoop.

Doesn't matter. The parish will just sue against the results and get the election tossed.

Genuine Question: Is there a real sense by those who want her recalled that these requirements can be achieved?

Even if they got far more than the needed number, they will find a way to throw out enough signatures to disqualify the petition.

Agree. Just reading the terms of the petition tells me the recall won’t happen.

I doubt this can really happen, but I hope like hell it gets widespread publicity and chatter and pisses LaToya off royally

You’re probably right but it will make her squirm and possibly be a better mayor

Too late, she's already done enough damage to that city.

This will go nowhere because the guy who filed it jumped the gun without any organization. If this was properly organized it may have shot if you knocked on every door in Lakeview, UPT, and the garden district.
