Broome did release a statement saying the move by the 4 was illogical.

I'll give Broome credit...she's certainly playing her hand at the moment and no one knows what she's holding or who she's siding with. If she's smart, which she isn't, she will hop aboard the Wicker train and find a way to bargain with her/pay her off not to run in 2020 and do as much for districts 8 and 10 as she possibly can.

What is the end game here tho? Do they think they can get the control and start taking tax money and driving down the street in their districts throwing cash out of the window?

The tax base would dwindle and the entire city would suffer.

Its still a total mystery why they fought so hard for the zoo to stay in the area. I guess its the same mentality. Not really a plan for the city, just an attempt to get more control.

Well, I'll give her credit where it's due. Good on her.

I think part of the confusion is because there are two different issues at play:

1) The creation of St George as a municipality. This is pretty straight-forward. They would, I assume form their own police and fire departments (or contract for those services). They may form other departments for services, or resort to using the parish for those services. They would elect their own mayor and their own city council.

2) The deconsolidation of EBR and City of BR. I am going to assume that if this happens, the "surviving" government would be the parish government, so SWB would become Parish President and the metro council would become the parish council. A "new" Baton Rouge Mayor and Baton Rouge Council would then be elected to preside over City of BR government, which again would include fire, police, etc.

SWB (assuming she lives in the city), and the current metro council members who live in the city would then have to decide if they want to stay on the now-parish council / parish president, or run for the new city council / mayor.

So far they have been successful in growing the size of govt. in the parish. They are increasing their influence.

Look who controls COA and CATS.

Look how the parish budget has grown. Look at the size of the sewer program. EBR schools budget keeps growing even though they lose students.

As govt. grows do do the set aside programs for minorities. The pie gets bigger thus the slices get bigger.

Look at how hard they are fighting to keep SG taxes. It's a political struggle not a philosophical debate.

$$$$ = power

If the Dems ever get control of the CP Council look out.

Broome is slow playing her first term. The black & progressive white community has yet to hold her feet to the fire, so why not. And she isn't very bright or affable.

Maybe cracks will begin to form once people realize that the murder rate will never go down because of her stooge PD chief and that she single handedly helped to stoke the STG movement (in part using tax dollars)

There also needs to be a legit threat from another DEM or a more conservative candidate or she will continue to fly under the radar. But, maybe her flying under the radar is keeping her from having to move too far left and falling in line with the Banks types.

She's keeping her mouth shut. If she, in any way, attempts to make peace or come to the defense of Wicker, Chauna and her slave catchers will turn their canons on her and attempt to turn the hardcore black activists against her.

A post earlier in this thread indicated Chauna's facebook may already be turning that cannon.

What's your point. You have been wrong on several issues here.

Unfortunately, the retards to the north generally flock to the most obnoxiously verbose "leader" because keeping it real is more important than doing what's best for everyone.

The one about Broome

Your first one ignores reality.

I think she was clueless as a candidate which is why she isn't as ideological as she was. There are certain realities that you can't ignore once in office.

Perhaps, I've been wrong before. But, the reality is that far too many people have no understanding of the relationships between city government, parish government and state government and how much of that is interconnected.

You are right about that.

It's not that simple.

It's interesting that this conversation is taking place on the O-T, and not Political Talk. That problem is really bad on that board.

Say that they actually recall her. Does the election immediately follow, or does the Metro Council get to appoint her temporarary replacement? Can you imagine if out of spite they appointed a WHITE REPUBLICAN?

Depends on how much is left in her term. You can't initiate a recall effort withing so many days of the expiration of her term. Assuming that there is enough time left to start a recall effort, if the recall is successful, I believe she would be immediately removed from office, the council would appoint someone to hold her seat, and a special election would be called for the next available election date. Basically, once the recall was successful and the seat was vacant, the process would be the same as it was for Buddy Amoroso's vacant seat.

The only place in Baton Rouge I repeatedly see town halls w/the local city counsel rep is in Tara's district.
I don't agree with her politics in the least, but she's one on the council who seems to pretty regularly get the process and the work of governing right. I see her engaged with her constituents.

She probably is doing a great job representing her district. She was re elected twice.
