I don't see how many people could have survived that.

Damn....how fricking horrifying would it have been to be in that far right unit knowing that it was about to collapse, but just stuck there, waiting for those few seconds

Good God that is terrible. I can’t see how that can just happen out of the blue.

That video seems fake - it doesn’t look like it was taken at 3am.

I’ve always wondered about some of these condos along the beach. Just driving up and down Orange Beach some of these things looked like they’re about to fall down as it is and cheaply made.

The camera probably has IR\light enhancement technology built into it. Seems legit to me

About 50 people are unaccounted for so far per local official.

Looks like it fell down and away from the rest of the structure like the outside columns gave out. They would be the most exposed to the salt air, but you would think some major cracking and spalling from the rusted rebar would have been noticed. I also wonder if they may have placed the rebar incorrectly on the floors or columns. The other thing I thought of was if they used post tension on the floors and in their "renovation" work accidentally cut some of the cables.

Fun concrete rebar rust reading info: Corrosion of Embedded Materials

I hope they find more survivors, but that pile looks pretty flat.

Holy shite. I just saw the video and now that picture.

I don't see how many people could survive. We have to be talking about at least 40-50 dead.

Damn.

Well it matches up perfectly with the adjacent oval building you see in the shot. It's real. Look at the pools.

Building was being renovated.

I'd suspect the new architects and contractor had incomplete construction documents which lead them to weakening the structural integrity of the building's core.

Unfortunately, there is going to be plenty more dead once they go through that pile of rubble.

As far as the sand comments. My home in Florida is built on compacted sand. If I dig around the foundation its almost as hard as concrete. Much different than the red dirt around my home in Louisiana.

video of the collapse looks very controlled like ..

like dynamite?
would have to be one hell of a coordination to pull that off, leaving that one section standing. And if so, why such a heinous act?

I feel like if it was a bomb you would see at least some glowing orange flames burst out before the collapse.

I'll stick by it being structural, but you never know.

Looks like there is an almost idential condo building one block north.

Would suck to own a place in there right now.

From what they said in the press conf, the only work being done was on the roof (and it had been going on for 30+ days).
