The u.s. is the strongest nation the world has ever known
With a mighty, centralized federal government that has made state governments mere and unnecessary appendages of that almighty federal government.
The Founders and Framers are absolutely turning in their graves because THIS kind of US FedGov is EXACTLY what they wanted to avoid.
Additionally, the 2019 USA is on a path to transform itself in the most powerful and successful Globalist Internationalist Socialist Atheist country in history. It will take a few generations for the process to culminate, but, the USA is definitely on this path.
As such, I'm not so certain that the "right side" won the war. I'm not so certain that the Southern states had no right to secede and form a new nation. I'm not so certain that this new nation should have been denied the right to decide for itself how to solve its own problems and injustices.
BUT, I do agree that 1860 was not the right time to Secede and then attack the USA. As such, the South did commit a blunder in starting the whole thing. I wish it had never happened.

Damn I wish the Union had Ak-47s, M-16s and guided missiles back then. Could've wiped all these Confederates out before they knew what hit them.
Invent a time machine and send Delta Force to assassinate ole Robert E. Lee.
I love America. It aint perfect but it keeps trying to perfect itself.

My bad, i forgot, after this picture was taken, Grant gave Lee a Roman Soldier Helmet and then drug his balls down his chin.

Laughing. There's an alternate history novel about AK47's and the Civil War written by Harry Turtledove. BUT....in this book the North didn't have the Kalashnikovs.
It was called Guns of the South, well written and a good read. Time travelers from the future decide to take a hand and change history, they equip the Confederacy with the AK47 and succeed, but they have a sinister agenda.
For all you snowflakes get ready to REEEE, the hero that saves the day for the US and the Confederacy in the end is one Nathan Bedford Forrest LOL. It is a very good book.

Yes I know. They also did a little of that in Jean Claude Van Dam movie Timecop at the beginning.

The war should have been over in a few months. The north was fighting a battle in its backyard, had the south blockaded, way more troops, food, doctors, better guns, much bigger navy, etc. The vast majority of the higher ups in both the north and the south expected it to last a few weeks to months and instead it went on for 4 years. Many people, even today think Lee could have dragged the war on for many more years but southerners were starving. Thankfully he finally ended the war, even against his own soldiers and many commanders wishes.

If General Lee had decided to fight a war of attrition through guerrilla warfare, he would've made Lincoln's arse quit. Lee was already a tactical genius that won the Confederacy quite a few battles that the North had more men and resources in and guerrilla warfare would've taken his tactical acumen to a whole new level that would've been hell on Earth for the North
Lee lost because he went on the offensive. Even Longstreet made comments afterward that Lee is a defensive genius, but on the offensive, not quite one. Lee didn’t have the manpower to go after Washington, think Gettysburg. Also not sending Permberton help in Vicksburg. Permberton is defending with around 20,000 troops against Grant’s 40,000, Grant has to ask for another 20-30k since he couldn’t take Vicksburg and still couldn’t. So instead he lays a siege and starves then out, Grants favorite tactic. Lee should have sent help to break the siege but was wanting to go offensive to Washington.

If Lee has fought for the north I don’t think the war last more than a couple months

We really don't need to hear about your homo-erotic fantasies.

Lee went on the offensive because he knew it was the only way to win then war, i.e. to weaken Northern resolve enough to get them to stop fighting. To that end he was willing to take risks by invading the north. The attack at Gettysburg was Lee going all in for the win.

Southerners love to tell themselves fairytales about the civil war but at the end of the day they were treasonous losers fighting for the rights of rich white guys to own black people.
And those tough good old boys got put in their place real quick by a bunch of Yankees who weren’t even ready to fight. The entire ordeal is so embarrassing to the South in so many ways.
You should go find every history teacher you’ve ever learned from and slap the shite out of them for failing you so miserably.

True, I understand his reasoning, it just didn’t work

A Confederate victory at Antietam could have effectively won the war for the South. McClellan was staggering and ready to go down. Then someone found some cigars.
