re: Rank these "major" cities in LA in order of which you would live:

1. Lafayette - heart of Cajun country, and mostly friendly and fun. My kind of town.
2. Baton Rouge - melting pot of Louisiana, for better or worse. Mixture of some aspects of Cajun Country, old south, New Orleans, and whatever else is brought in by LSU and state gov. Good appreciation for food. University draws amenities to BR normally found in larger cities. Traffic and poor highway infrastructure is a big negative.
3. New Orleans - Distinctive, historic, and entertaining. Beautiful architecture and amazing food. Actually one of the best food cities in the country IMO. Unfortunately very parochial and socially closed to outsiders. To a large extent, it's filled with assholes...and annoying tourists.
4. Lake Charles - Friendly, blue collar town with tremendous growth potential. Feels and acts like a small town. Not as much to do there, but fairly close to Houston and Lafayette.
5. I guess whatever is the least Bible-thumping red neck town out of Shreveport, Alexadria, or Monroe would be a distant 5th. None of them have ever appealed to me and I do not have family in those areas.

After having lived all over the world...
Literally the only places I'd consider living in Louisiana is Lafayette and somewhere nice near NOLA.
In LA I've lived in Baton Rouge, Shreveport, NOLA, Lafayette and Alexandria.
A-town is not really that bad, decent public schools; but its remote location, lack of spice of life & entertainment, quality universities, and fractured community make it a poor choice.
Raleigh north carolina has a tighter knit feel to it than Alexandria. (I don't even really like Raleigh)
A-town has factions.

Have you been anywhere in NOLA besides Bourbon or eaten anywhere other than a redneck fatass fried seafood place?
Just curious

I love the place just bc I'm from la and it offers someone different than anywhere in the world.
But you couldn't pay me enough money to live there.
Most people not a Nola homer agrees.
Sorry.
