One thing you, and almost every other person in the state, fail to realize is that LSU's revenue has actually been increasing every year since around 04 IIRC. You've been duped

Because they've doubled tuition
State is sending a billion less to higher ed than they did 10 years ago.

I've listened to him speak in person as well. Shocking that he holds public office. Looks and sounds like a mad scientist.

Because the state completely funds LSU
They just increase tuition to more than cover decreases in state dollars. They actually bring in more money every year by doing this. They've gotten rid of hundreds of good faculty, and replaced half of the teachers with grad students.
Where is that money? Lemme know when you find it

If a black girl who grew up in poverty in a place like Lake Providence can succeed at LSU, anybody can.
I always figured you differently from your posts, like an old Asian woman selling skrimps from a panel van alongside the road.

FWIW, I always pictured you as one of the guys selling steaks door-to-door

LSU is alive and well, folks. And I am now more convinced than ever that we should get rid of most of the smaller 4 year schools. If a black girl who grew up in poverty in a place like Lake Providence can succeed at LSU, anybody can.
While I agree that LSU should take an interest in educating its own citizens, I disagree with this statement.
LSU should focus on the top half of Louisiana's high school students and LSU should try and drastically increase its out-of-state recruitment.

I sold greeting cards door-to-door as a kid.
Back when it was LSUNO, Homer.

So selling steaks was a natural transition?

it sure does. Old FKing earns $600,000.00 annually.
Which would put him way outside the Top 50 for university system Presidents. He's also responsible for more than just LSU-BR too. (I don't even like F King, but he's not being paid a lot for what the job market is)

So I guess the "flagship university" never has to go without? It gets fully funded no matter what, eh? frick that. Soon as they learn to live within their means, they can do whatever they want. You sound like the typical civil service/govt. worker. You have no idea of doing with less at the university level. But you are fine with telling the taxpayer who is forever adjusting their budget to live within their means that they have to pay for your shite.
Uh, exactly. I desire excellence in all ways from LSU and that includes giving the university all it needs to improve. I don't like that my degree is being de-valued.
If lack of revenue is the problem, then they should consolidate universities so that they can have 10 better universities instead of the 14(?) we have now. Will never feel guilty about wanting to support higher education in a poorly educated state.

you surely understand the goal of I and most others is to grow our own bank accounts and provide for our families and improve ourselves, right?
So then you can empathize with the goal of improving what you're responsible for. Glad we're all on the page.

yes well, freezing new car purchases, not replacing old appliances or lawn mowers, and cutting vacations and spending on clothes, groceries, nights out, etc. are where we the public are having to make cuts. And it sucks for us as well.
And yet you and every other public official tell me its not enough. Too bad. Learn to live with it. I can't afford LSU being the flagship anymore and neither can Louisiana apparently.
This is obviously the case. I just don't wish for the university to continue to flounder and half of its buildings decay while other schools are able to avoid that.

We don't have to be TAMU or Vandy. But we shouldn't just let anyone be admitted. We need some standards.

I agree. We're not set up to be elite academically.
I'd be ok with just keeping up with Auburn, South Carolina, and Alabama.

Lack of revenue isn't the problem though. Shitty leadership and wasteful spending are the problems
Posted on 5/16/17 at 12:30 am to Slippy
Why you baws hating on the smaller schools? Oh, you've got LSU-itis and your shite doesn't stink? frick off.

Let's get rid of Tops!
Once your kid turns 18yrs bottom line they are adults. Instead of coddling them they need to learn how to buckle down and invest in their future. That means I or any other tax payer should not have to pay for it!
I graduated from UCLA and USC while holding down a job. My wife also graduated from Sanford working part time and student loans. After being out of college for 2 years we paid off our student loans. Yes, we struggled, lived in a crappy apartment, and drove beater cars.
We made it just fine!
We need to teach kids that if they want something they need to earn it! Then all these protest would stop when kids actually have to work for their degree and pay for their degree.

By the way, you pretentious arse, why does growing up in poverty make it more impressive that someone succeeded at LSU? What, poor people can't be smart, work their arse off, and get a degree? It's a great accomplishment, but damn, you make it sound like she did the impossible.
My point is if that girl can come from Lake Providence to attend LSU (much farther than Lake Charles) and overcome more financial obstacles than you can possibly imagine, then people like you can go to college 2 hours away and get a superior education while they're at it. I'm tired of state dollars paying for glorified high schools.
ETA: I grew up in North Louisiana. I graduated in a class of about 250, and all of 10 people went to LSU. Many went to NLU or Tech or Northwestern. Their reasons for not going to LSU were generally in the vein of "It's too far away" or "LSU is too big" or "my friends are goiing to Tech." It was never about family circumstances or financial hardship. (They were, after all, going away to college to live in a dorm.). Thankfully I know the numbers have changed since the 80s, and many more Shreveport kids are going to LSU. WE SIMPLY DO NOT NEED FOUR YEAR UNIVERSITIES IN EVERY NOOK AND CRANNY OF THE STATE. Ohio State has over 60,000 students, and the education there is outstanding. Louisiana could learn something from them.

This is stupid, nobody goes to college because of the professors. People go to college to get drunk and watch football

Yeah but that was 40 years ago when college was like $300

You guys who think this state is capable of cutting whole universities are living in a fantasy. We couldn't even merge SUNO and they have a 4 fricking percent graduation rate. This state is addicted to government, don't let the rhetoric of the pols fool you. Everyone is for smaller government until their Main Street museum or shitty community college are on the chopping block.

Which is why our rankings don't really matter to the average person from Louisiana.
