I took some friends from another college to Silver Moon in 1986. They still talk about it.

Probably a bit further back...but I remember the massive Santa on top of the roof leading into the Godchaux's building on Florida Blvd (now the FEMA building near the Greyhound bus station). You could hear him saying "Ho ho ho" for miles.
Oh wow I remember this. My mom and grandma used to take me there when I was 5 or 6 years old. They used to take me there in my grandmother’s car, which I remember because it had a red interior.
Godchaux’s hung around until well after Bonne Marche came and went. Bonne Marche was supposed to put it out of business. I think it didn’t close until the entire Maison Blanche brand went under. I got clothes there for my first homecoming dance, so it had to have been open in the late 1990s.

The end of Frenchtown Road was the favorite hangout for devil worshipers

The Airline Highway/Florida Blvd intersection was a traffic circle (not a puny little roundabout, but a real circle!).

No Arby's, but there was a Rax on Essen Lane.
For years, Red Lobster and Sonic ran ads in the Baton Rouge market despite the absence of a location for either. I have no idea where people used to meet up.

The massive display of Christmas lights at the capitol. I think Exxon sponsored.
Po Folks was at Florida and Wooddale.
Burger Tyme on Government (Mom loved the Blazin' Cajun burger).
Leo's skating rink had a defunct ice skating rink until BTR got an ice hockey team.
There was a strip club on Tom Dr. in between Wooddale and Airline.

You could park north of Tiger stadium between he stadium and Aster St. for a football game and walk from your vehicle to the stadium and back after the game and:
Your vehicle would still be where you parked it, in tact and with no vandalism.
You would not have to be super alert with your head on a swivel watching for any dangers from nefarious persons.
You didn’t smell skunk weed or even any kind of weed at all during the walk.

Wasn't there a huge music store right next door to Photon, or did that come after?

My older brother got me into a festival downtown (called Bonne Fete maybe?) around 1999 where Better than Ezra was playing. I was 14 or 15 years old and my brother was at LSU. The concert was at the parking lot by the water tower where the LSU Art Museum/Tsunami is now on Lafayette Street. I remember that experience vividly. My first real concert, and BTE was still huge at the time.
My first real show too, I was 13 and close to the stage and remember a mosh pit formed which I thought was weird for a BTE concert.

Going to the Mall of La on opening week in the mid/late 1990s. That was absolutely nuts
Was there as well, thought it was the coolest thing at the time. Spent so many teenage days at that mall.

Chelsea’s being at the north gates. Awesome place then
Used to eat at Chelsea’s north gate all the time my freshman year at LSU.
Saw Ryan Bingham play at the overpass Chelsea’s location with a crowd of maybe 100 people. He won an academy award not long after that.
I remember the old Broadmoor theater, Belmont Hotel right before it really went down, Giamanco’s on government.
I miss old Baton Rouge

Fun Fair Park was fun, Baums Bakery was good, Independence Park was a small airport, Town Centre was also a small airport if I recall, but definitely was a horse farm. Jefferson Hwy. by Lobdell was sleepy and nothing really there but K&B and Burger King and Baskin Robbin’s. Joe-D’s had yummy jelly rolls. Sherwood Forrest was for the wealthy. Baton Rouge was a nice place. Maybe this was more than 20 years ago. Maybe 40, lol.
