It amazes me they haven't learned to band together and figure out to break into our houses for free food yet

I worked with an old man that was country as shite who wanted to set up his traps to catch our dumpster raccoon to take home and eat.

I was not in favor of this idea but I also wasn't about to look like a city slicking bitch and tell him no.

Also, unlike dogs and cats, they have opposable thumbs, which carries all kinds of problems.
No they don't. They use their front paws more like "hands" than most animals, but their thumbs aren't opposable.

Opossums on the other hand do have opposable thumbs.

you really need to find one that still has it's eyes closed and bottle feed it to have a decent chance. If it is a boar coon, it has to be neutered or once it hits puberty it will get aggressive as hell. Once the nuts drop and he is looking for a coon girlfriend he will frick you up for no reason. But you really can't domesticate them, you can tame them to an extent but they will forever remain a wild animal that is unpredictable

This. I had one. It is like having a baby with razor sharp claws and teeth.

Rabies and they bite when they're mad.

I had one as a kid. He was house trained. He ate Fruit Loops.

Wasn't there a thread a while back about a pet raccoon that killed an infant by eating its face? Horrible story but I'm pretty sure it happened.
