A while back a poster advised to beware of the V8 engines in certain of the Ram 1500s. Does anyone have any information about that subject?

Thank you.

Id be interested to hear that. The current gen hemi is an old salt with good record. The truck is a POS but the engine is not the concern

I own a 2018 ram and while the engine is fantastic, the rest of the truck (driveline included) is a raging POS and I've had a 2018 ford and a 2014 Chevy. Both were SIGNIFICANTLT better vehicles in every single aspect that I can put a finger on. The only thing the ram has better is the engine (a cummins) and the price. Every single thing else sucks compared to the other two

Just traded in my 2014 Ram Laramie (180k miles) for a 2020 Laramie deal I could not pass up. So to answer your question, I loved my 14’ Hemi, and my 20’ hemi runs so much better so far..

Id love to hear some feedback from these two downvotes.

My previous fords and Chevrolet spent exactly zero days in the repair shop in a combined 200k miles. The ram has been in the shop for 12 days in 14k miles for an abs module replacement, front axle disconnect replacement, and a hard right pull and tire wear issue that still hasn't been corrected.

I've owned them all and this one is a piece of shite compared to either of the other ones.

The Dodge Ram 1500 Reliability Rating is 3.5 out of 5.0, which ranks it 4th out of 17 for fullsize trucks. The average annual repair cost is $670 which means it has average ownership costs. While repairs tend to be more severe than average, the number of those issues is low, so major repairs are uncommon for the Ram 1500.

They don’t differentiate between engines, but I would imagine the turbo diesel had more problems since they just redesigned it. That would make me think the Hemi version is actually pretty reliable.

Nope. In the tradesman vs ford/Chevy work truck trims the ram is horrible. The radio is abysmal, steering wheel controls suck and are not intuitive, the display randomly decides it doesn't want to work anymore, the dash readout looks like a T84 calculator, the fuel mileage calculator is off by 10%, there are no buttons, the fricking phone rings loud as a police siren whether its on silent or not.

The truck fricking sucks and anybody who says otherwise is just justifying their POS cheapo purchase. Ford and Chevy are 10 years ahead of ram in everything. Ram wins in price, that's it, and not by much.

The hemi 5.7 is the last thing I'd be concerned about. Its a dinosaur at this point and proven reliable.

Man I have spoke to a few other Ram owners and none have had these complaints. You’re in a relatively newer model that I assume is still under warranty. How’s the service on these problems?

This is the truth. I almost bought a new Laramie. Easily the nicest interior of the local boys. Then I test drove the new Sierra denali. It just felt different. The interior isn't as nice but I'm sure I'll be happy 5 years from now when my ipad like screen doesn't die of dysentery like I'm sure the Laramie will.

I have a 2012 Ram and haven't had a single issue, not one. The ride snd interior are much better than any Ford or GM.

Sorry you had a bad experience.

I got you.

Don't buy gas V8s from Chevy or Dodge that have the variable valve system. They have issues with the lifters.

If you won't listen to me, listen to The Car Wizard.

My BiL's 2019 Ram HEMI has been in the shop 3x in the last 2 months for this exact issue. My mom's 2019 Yukon just had it's entire engine replaced, an engine with less than 20,000 miles.

So far everything has been fixed under warranty other than the alignment/tire wear problem which I dont see being fixed. I think its just a design issue, my buddies 2012 ram did the same thing.

Keep in mind, its been in the shop 14 days in 14k miles. A day per 1000 miles, and we put 3000k miles in 4 days on it last week.

The interface and comfort problems are design issues. I came from a 2018 F250 to a 2500 tradesman and the ram absolutely sucks compared to the Ford. The Ford had intuitive controls where the ram does not. The Ford had accurate fuel consumption readout where the ram does not. The Ford had a 48 gallon fuel tank and the ram has 32 gallons.

I have a ram because it was FAR cheaper and I'll gladly live with the comfort shortfalls for the price, but the reliability has me very concerned. It tried to shift itself into 4 wheel drive while going 80 down I49 at 3 am after 18 hours on the road dragging 10k pounds and it made a good attempt to jump in the ditch doing it. The truck is definitely obviously cheaper built than the Ford or GM offerings out now.

Ftr, I have a Ram myself. A 2014, that I absolutely love. It's incredibly comfortable.

But it's the V6. So it doesn't have the lifter issue. Has decent power, but gets great gas mileage for a truck. I average around 22 city, 27ish on the interstate.

Sounds like you need to lighten up on your driving habits, Francis.
