Extending this argument out logically you should dismantle our country.
We slaughtered and obliterated an entire race of people to keep our country, fought a revolution and specifically said we'll keep slaves during it and no one but white male landowners get rights, then said blacks count as 3/5ths of a person for population purposes but never get rights or to vote.
We also took rights from or refused to give rights to Italians, Irish, Chinese, Women, Gays, Bastard children, handicapped, retards, children, old people, poor people, etc.......
Where do you stop it? Where do you draw the line?
You think any native Americans want statues of Washington? Or Jackson?
You can find a reason to be upset about any part of history. It's history.
You think the gay community loves MLK, Jr?
You think the southern historians love Lincoln?
History is history. Learn from it. Study it. Honor it. It's where you came from.
Things don't happen in a vacuum. Different times have different standards.
Should no one study and Greek or Roman history because they allowed pedophilia?
This was never about racism or slavery or any of that window dressing bullshite.
This is about power, misplaced anger, reverse racism, and political gain. Nothing else.
Anyone who actually thinks the powers that be removed these monuments for some bullshite humanitarian purpose needs to be smacked in the head.

OK, two things:
1. Mary Morris is a worthless race-baiting troll.
2. Mary Morris is a barely functioning retard. She says she knows that contraband is the importing/exporting of illegal goods, yet slavery was LEGAL at the time her ancestors were imported to the colonies. Logic dictates that the slaves were, by definition, NOT contraband.

Thankfully the rest of the council (including black members) didn't fall for this stupidity. Luvertha August specifically spoke out against it.
The interesting thing about the mayors race is that as SFP already pointed out the city is basically split 50/50, but Carter was literally the worst possible candidate to make it to the runoff. He has so many enemies even in the black community that I didn't see any way he could win. Had Marshall Semien made it through (he and Carter were a percentage point apart in the primary) I honestly think he might have won.

Marshall could have been sold to SLC and Dana and Landry could have endorsed him without issue
Marshall's problem is that he has his own optics/bad blood issues in the black community. nobody thought he'd do that well in the primary

Well the land was sold and a restaurant was built there. The black students weren't upset that they lost their party spot, they were upset because of what the restaurant built there was named...The restaurant was a Sambo's.
