What's more common isn't for the cooks to chuck with food but for the restaurant management to do incompetent shite.
I worked at a place that had half the line coolers broken for months and the walk in broke so we had a refrigerated trailer to keep food in.
Multiple food safely violations.
But I did my best to keep my product iced.
I insisted on gloves and temp checking.
But I wanted to be a chef then.
I worked Joe's crab shack > Copelands > Ruth Chris > cheesecake Bistro then ran a hotel breakfast buffet.

I hated when they(candidans) would order a well done filtet and send it back if it was butterflyed. You know how long a 10oz filet takes to well done without burning in a broiler?
What a waste of good meat.
I wouldn't even use an aged steak when it was well done. Their steaks came right out the plastic.

I don't drink fountain drinks and am leery of ice too.

Yep I was in that movie
Had a couple of hg's that were in the open dining room scene. The day after I saw that movie the training video guy happened to be sitting in my restaurant listening to us talk about it

You should be. I am anal about having my ice and fountain machines cleaned. That mold grows quickly

This is false. I know a guy that used to work fast food and said a guy kept bitching about his order wasn’t right and he spit on top of his fish sandwich. Another guy worked at McDonalds and got pissed at a manager and for some reason went into the freezer and pissed in a pack of frozen hamburger patties.
It definitely happens.

What restaurant doesn't have a microwave in prep? Maybe not in the line.
The one place I worked at the microwave a lot was Copelands. The Spin dip? Microwave. The broccoli or veggie sides ? Microwave.
Anytime we had to bring a chub bag up to temp fast or warm a brownie. Microwave.
The only thing I like to cook in the microwave is veggies.
When I worked for the bistro it was only in prep and ditto with Ruth's.
I did like how you could put SS pans in those commercial microwaves.
I think we had 2 on Pantry, 2 in prep and one on Broil at Copelands BR.

I suggest never eating anywhere in the last 30 minutes of operation. Maybe not frick with. But corners will be cut if you order food when the line is already broken down.

I won't allow them in the kitchen. Next you know some idiot is microwaving a hamburger so he can leave five minutes earlier

The best workplaces i had were kitchens.
But it's also a stressful job if you get in the weeds every night.

Our line cook got into a fight with a dishwasher at Daquiris on Essen. Cook called the dw the N word and DW punched him hard. Cook went down. Never got back up.
Died in hospital. DW was back at work next day.
Also dude was 21 (older than me at time) and had 5 kids. I remeber that.

Yeah. The tensions were with servers and floor managers. KMs had our back but servers would run us ragged.
I hated my Floor manager until he showed up at one of our parties and I introduced him to his future wife during a smoke session.
This thread actually makes me upset that I didn't keep up with everyone. This was before SM.

lol, ya’ll didn’t work in restaurants long if you never saw any shenanigans. I worked in restaurants from 16- almost 30 part time and summers in Destin. There was plenty.
I can’t remember anyone intentionally trying to make something gross like spit on food or add something gross. It’s mostly high maintenance orders or send backs.
I had a kid drop their hotdog on the floor before taking a bite. (Obviously this was a high quality place) Parents asked for a new one. I took it back, rinsed it off, nuked it for 10 seconds, and brought it back.
It was mostly stuff like that. Bartenders serving drunk people drinks with no booze or random shite to see if they noticed.

I was a cook at IHOP Florida Blvd and LSU site, during the early 70s. I never saw anyone's food being tampered with. Only thing I saw was some cooks would put a little pancake batter in the scrambled eggs to make them thicker. But that was harmless.
