First, congrats on the game last night and the season. Truly the most impressive season I've seen in my lifetime. Especially considering what your offense did and the defenses it did it to.

So, my wife booked a trip to NOLA for my 50th birthday next month. She knows how much I love it there, and she's never been. We're going be there four nights, the weekend before Fat Tuesday.

A few questions. I know the area pretty well, and I'm a Frenchman>Bourbon type, but as far as dinners, will we need reservations at most places this time of year, or will be able to find a place to walk in and get a seat at night after parades?

Can you recommend some restaurants around the quarter for New Orleans cuisine?

Is it hard to get an Uber or cab during the Mardi gras season if we want to get out of the quarter?

I think that's all I have for now. Thanks in advance.

Probably

Probably not unless it's McDonald's, which is still slammed with people.

If you want to walk multiple blocks away and still pay a ridiculous price, no.

Yes, you pretty much need reservations at most good restaurants most times during the year, and especially during something like Mardi Gras.

Uber/cab depends upon timing. If a parade is going on, you will typically have two options, in the box and out of the box. Because vehicles can't cross during parades.

You really should get reservations. Go to the food and drink board and ask for suggestions. Tell them what kind of places you are looking for.

Don't plan on watching the parades on Canal street. It sucks. Go uptown for some parades or pay for a ticket to sit in a viewing stand or something. I highly suggest this for Endymion.

Yes you will need reservations for the nicer places

I wouldn't worry about an uber, most big roads are closed so its hard to get around in a car if its not before the parades start for the day. you can walk pretty much anywhere you would want to go anyway, just wear comfortable shoes.

Not to hijack your thread, but is there a place close to the CBD that is good to watch the parades with a wife and 2 year old? When we lived in New Orleans we always sat along Napoleon, but I'm not sure I want to go that far from our hotel.

I would try and stay in the Garden District if you could. None of the parades go through the Quarter, and it’s always easier to go to the Quarter when you want, than constantly go back and forth. Better food is Garden District/Uptown. Irene’s is great. It’s in the CBD. Del Monico is a great one too, it’s in the Lower Garden District. Both will need reservations

Last I checked, uber hadnt figured out how to factor in the parade route. You're screwed if you request a ride and the driver is on the other side of the barricades... especially if you're trying to get out of the quarter.

It's gonna be hot dry wet windy rainy sunny at that time of year, too, so dress appropriately.

Post this on the Food & Drink TD board and do a search on there. Those folks are helpful.

You could catch it on St. Charles. Depending on the parade, it will be pretty crowded, but anywhere down St. Charles from Poydras into the warehouse district is fine.
