will you be at the ARTCC?

Miami Lakes, Doral, and Coral Gables would all be quick and easy if so, and decent areas

Miami (and South Florida) is very nice looking, but it’s all a veneer.

You will never live in a more “me first” city.

I lived in Miami for a year and have since moved to Ft. Lauderdale.

quote:

1.) Is Miami a good place to live?

Not really unless you make +300k, speak Spanish, tolerant of cultural idiosyncrasies, and are ok with a lifestyle different than what is considered normal in the states. It’s literally another country.

quote:

2.) What area would you recommend living?

Single? Brickell Family? Coral Gables, South Miami, Pinecrest

quote:

3.) How bad is the traffic in the are between 6-7am and 3-4pm?

I’ve lived in LA, Lafayette, Baton Rouge, and Nola. NOTHING compares to this shite. They have some fricked up traffic laws in this state too.

quote:

4.) What's the average monthly cost of day to day living? (i.e. food, gas, housing)

It’s pretty expensive, food is prob relative to your area but gas and housing will far exceed your expectation.

Moral of the story, live north of I-595 close to the coast. Purchase a Sunpass and take the express lanes to work. Lifestyle, culture, and travel are far and away better than Miami.

it's little everything from the Caribbean/Latin America, not necessarily a bad thing either, some of the sleaziest, trashiest elements are the transients from up northeast US

MRS Squeeze (no Pics)and I relocated to Miami in 2018 from Metarie. It has been great to us. I had a job offer and she did not. SHe found a job in one month of looking. Job market is scrong.

1.) Is Miami a good place to live?

Yes- lots off growth and opportunity
2.) What area would you recommend living? I would say depends on where you want to live. Coral Gables and South Miami are way over proiced for what you get. I would recomend living in Broward or Hollywood. More bang and sq footage for houses and apts.
3.) How bad is the traffic in the are between 6-7am and 3-4pm?

There is BAD traffic from 630-10 and 4-6 everyday. I leave at 6 to spend half the time in the car.
4.) What's the average monthly cost of day to day living? (i.e. food, gas, housing)

Depends- I spend 2100 for a 2 bedroom apt in west kendall

Not just Habla espanol? but Parlez vous Francais?

Do not underestimate the diaspora from Haiti.

There's a movie about the decline in the Jewish community in Miami that's pretty good. "The Last Resort" will give you an idea of what used to be.

Miami is the closest foreign country to America and you don't need a passport

In 2005, in the aftermath of Katrina, the company I was working for relocated to downtown Miami. I went and helped set up the new shop. In less than six months, I quit & moved back to broke-dick New Orleans.

Thing I disliked about Miami:
--While S Florida is beautiful along the ocean, east of I-95, that's a small percentage of the place. West of I-95? Ugly-arse strip-mall & track house sprawl built on reclaimed Everglades: imagine New Jersey, only with palm trees.
--The traffic sucks arse all the time, everywhere, and everything is spread out, so you basically have long drives wherever you go. My <5 mile commute from Coconut Grove to downtown took 35-40 minutes each way.
--Lots of the people are unspeakably rude. I'm guessing it's the combination of people from NY-NJ + people from the developing world, places unfamiliar with southern gentility and manners.
--I don't speak Spanish. My limitation, I realize, but if you don't, you're shut out of a lot of culture, jobs, relationships, etc.
--Live music scene sucks. If you're interested in seeing real shows (not DJ music), you're mostly SOL. Few small/mid-level acts bring their tour all the way down the peninsula to Miami for one gig.
--Cuban food is wildly overrated.
--As fricked up as NOLA is with regard to hurricanes, Miami is worse, since there's no real way to evacuate the 6 million people in S Florida. As strange as it sounds to say, NOLA is safer because you can realistically get out ahead of a storm.

I love Miami. But that area you are talking about is 95% Hispanic. English is the second language in those parts. Very close to little Havana. Hileah I believe is the name of that area.

Yes.
2.) What area would you recommend living?
Brickell.
3.) How bad is the traffic in the are between 6-7am and 3-4pm?
Not awful.

~1400-3000 for a 1BR, depending on how nice. Normal COL otherwise (except SoBe, where everything has an extra tax)
