Does it sound like we speak English fast to people who don’t speak English?

Why does Lexus use a woman with an English accent during their commercials when it’s a Japanese company?

Have you ever heard someone that's learning English try to speak it? They're slow as hell. I'm sure they think that we speak fast.

Why do I have to press 1 for English and 2 for Spanish?

In Mexico do you have to press 1 for Spanish and 2 for English?

In my experience, people from Spanish speaking countries think we speak very fast.

It's all relative. A language you don't understand is going to sound unfamiliar.

I've read Ricardo Montalban went on The Tonight Show and demonstrated what English sounds like to people who don't speak it. Apparently it was a flat, nasal monotone, like a dog barking or donkey braying.

In the movie The Great Caruso the opera legend disaprages English as being "spoken with the teeth", because of all the "th" sounds (the, thanks)

Focus groups subliminally think that an English accent sounds more dignified and elegant so that’s what they use when targeting a demographic that wants to be upper class.

Same reason Sam Elliot sounding guys are always on truck commercials. Have an English guy wax poetic about an F250 would be strange.

Because Spanish utilizes a lot more suffixes and prefixes to communicate concepts that English uses multiple words. As a result, less words are used and it can be hard to differentiate where one word ends and another begins because of the repeated sounds of the suffixes. Spanish isn’t faster, just more grammatically “efficient” for lack of a better word.

I swear I've had sex that didn't last as long as some baws trying to spit out a sentence at a fourth-grade level.

Get on with it.

Because Americans don't want to listen to Tokyo Rose.

It's not so much that they speak Spanish quickly. It's the fact that your brain processes Spanish slowly.
