They are going to have a blast chasing dragon flies and drawing in the dirt. There is no point in practicing more than once with 3 and 4 year olds.

My question is whether this is normal or not.

Pretty normal in Houston, Sugar Land, etc... It's almost like the people organizing this shite have no family life and need something to do. They treat T-ball like MLB minor leaques. Silly beyond belief.

It'll all be worth it at the induction ceremony in Cooperstown.

You talking about the golf tourney yesterday?? I felt like I heard some beef between a player and a fan and they went to commercial.

How can you say it isn't beneficial? It lets them get out of the house, have some fun and learn something new. Of course you are always going to have those kids that are just there because their parents signed them up and they have completely no interest in it and some kids that really enjoy it and have fun and want to learn. My son had 8 kids on his tee ball team last season and 4 of them signed up again this year and they are all on the same team and it seems like they all have improved over the first season.

We have the HC and 2 assistant coaches so we usually split them up between 2-3 kids so we can keep their attention on learning.

Because bad habits are seeded

Kids mimic other kids

At age 3 or 4, going to play in the front yard is all you need to do. 30-45 mins everytime you do it is perfect. By the time they are old enough to play organized ball, they will be light years ahead of the group

My 3 year old has a better arm and eye hand coordination then half the 5-6 year olds he’s played with just by playing catch and hitting off a tee for a few mins everyday.

I know this is true because that little ninja owned the street football games in between parades on napeoloen this Mardi Gras

lol, you can't practice baseball 1 on 1 for 30 to 45 minutes with a 3 or 4 year old. Do you even have kids or have you ever coached that age group?

Talk about burning a kid out. They would much rather be running around playing on a team with their friends.

30 - 45mins = 30-45 swings on a tee!!! Are you serious? My son is 3, we play till he says he’s done. It’s easy and he’s not burned out

I signed my oldest son up at 4 because I was excited for him to play. I immediately regretted it.

While I have the mic, I'll also warn against pitching. If he starts pitching, please keep an eye on his technique and pitch count. My son is graduating this year and will have to have Tommy John surgery because of all the pitching he did as a youth.

So... going through the same thing except one practice per week. For four year olds it’s one practice weekly, plus a game once a week for three months. It’s freeking t ball so I don’t see why they should be practicing weekly, except maybe a few times leading up to games, but that’s it. We’re just going to be missing some practices because between tball and another sport he does, that would have us doing sports after school three days/week. And that’s stupid for a 4 year old who just wants to play on his swing set.

My advice? Just say you can’t commit to that many and show up for one/week. What they gonna do? Bench him? Our league makes each team give all players a bat each inning.

Sounds fairly normal, even for a young age. Parents these days want their little rugrats hitting live pitching at age 5.

I’m dealing with it right now also. From what I gather 3 and 4 year old tball is simply for the coaches to get some attention for themselves. Every one of the slapdicks that coach my sons team believe they played 20 years in the majors.

It's 2 hours a week. You can't spend 2 hours a week with your son?!?

And it's not too much considering today's youth spends every waking hour in front of a tv or their fricking phones.

Get off work an hour early, get the kid, sit in traffic to get to practice, get home in another 30-45 minutes after hour long practice. That’s three hours on a weeknight and another on weekend. That’s not necessary for 3-4 year olds.

Of course it isn't necessary. It isn't necessary to play. It also isn't really overkill. 1 hour 2 xs per week for 2.5 months is not very much.
