I am not "trying" to be in ketosis. I only asked that question because of what I read on here it sounded like I may have been involuntarily and was unfamiliar with it.

Thanks to everyone that gave advice. I'm going to try to add some carbs to my diet by eating something for breakfast and maybe pick up some almond butter. I'll also try to stay closer to 40-50 carbs a day.

Anymore constructive advice is welcome.

If you are trying to keep your carbs that low you are trying to be in ketosis, otherwise, why bother eating so little carbs?

I try to stay away from bread and things like that. The foods I like don't have any carbs. I would rather eat grilled chicken and vegetables than a lot of other stuff. That's just the food I like, I guess. Grilled chicken or salmon or tuna with asparagus or squash and zucchini is one of my favorite meals.

I do eat some rice and potatoes, things like that, that have carbs, but not often.

Lose about 10 more lbs. Then just general workout and running. Basketball a couple days a week is my main cardio with a couple of days of 2 or so miles on the treadmill before a workout.

With all due respect OP you are full of it. You are not telling the truth to us, yourself, or both. Frankly it sounds like something made you go into an eating disorder or you are just full of crap.

If what you say is what you 'like' you wouldn't be overweight unless you were 4 years old. 1200-1400 calories would be a good meal plan for someone that is maybe 100 lbs. You can't say 'this is what I like to eat' and then say you 'need to lose 10 more lbs'.

It's much easier to gain muscle or lose fat, then to do both at the same time. To gain muscle you really need to eat a lot of protein and calories in general like 5,000+ if you are serious. To lose weight eat fewer calories and more cardio.

So again, I don't understand how someone who says they only eat 1200 calories is 10 lbs over weight. You are either trolling or leaving things out.

Just bc the guy is eating low carbs doesn't mean he's in ketosis. He still needs the bulk of his diet to be fat in order to have a sufficient fuel source.

Sounds to me you should be crashing hard if this really is your diet and you really are exercising to a decent level of work output.

If you're not wanting to drop more weight, start eating more nutritious foods.

If you read the thread I said I started being stricter on my diet about 6 weeks ago. That is the food I like, but I also like fried food and burgers (who does't). I would rather eat what I posted than a fatty meat and starch. Again, when I went to the doctor, my body doesn't produce enough insulin and my cholesterol was a little high. My body stores more fat out of food than is ideal so any fried foods or high fat foods really stick with me. These factors are what lead to my weight gain and until having that blood work done I could not understand how I was as active as I am and eat fairly well and not lose weight. Once I got the results from that blood work and really tightened up what I ate the weight fell off.

Then you were never fat and don't need to be on a "diet." You are either lying or have an eating disorder.

if you are trying to shed fat and not muscle and fat increase your cals quite a bit. get on my fitness pal and update your goals to be the following:

Cals-BWx10-12
Protein-30-35%
Fats-55-60%
Carbs-10-15% and keep all carbs to green leafy veggies.

For the above I would start at the high end for Cals and Carbs and then you can adjust as needed every two weeks.

oh and skipping breakfast is fine and actually very good for you.

I am usually not a big Keto person

But this pretty much sums up what is best for him probably. He says he rather not eat startches and prefers green veggies. He may not be trying to do Keto, but its a good fit for what he likes.

ETA: Keeping his cals as low as they have been is going to mess up his metabolism as well as mess with other hormonal balances
