Almost every single bad life decision I made was due to the influence of alcohol. While I don’t think having a drink here or there is necessarily a bad thing, it’s become a non issue for me. I just don’t desire it, nor the effects that come from over indulgence. I think when you’re younger it’s a big thing culturally and socially, but as you get older that wears itself out, especially the negative health effects that come from it too.

In my 20s & early 30s, I had no problem going hard on the weekend. When I settled down with my eventual wife, I cut back drastically, but would still enjoy a few in the evenings. The first time I had to deal with a 5am wakeup call from my first born and was still a little tipsy; I decided that was the end of that. Now I rather just not drink at all, and have the energy to play with the kids in the morning

every non-drinker I know is either a reformed alcoholic or Baptist

Yes sir.
I check it twice a day. If you are feeling down, or want to talk about things you don't want to share in here let me know. If I have the ability to help another addict, I am helping and its that simple.
You are not important just as an individual, but you are important to other people that are in your life. Always remember that alcoholics are selfish motherfrickers to the bone.

Damn I feel like I'm the only one on here that drinks every night. I have at least a 12 pack a night, more on weekends. Don't get drunk though, just relaxed.

Hank Williams Jr said it best. The hangovers hurt more than they used to. Cornbread and iced tea took the place of pills and 90 proof.

As several have said something similar, I felt I was on a bad path. I never really drank in high school, and not that much in college either. After college as newlyweds, we would go out with friends before we had kids, and had fun at bars and parties, but I never drank all the time. It was more a special occasion type of thing. Honestly, it was working from home during Covid that it got bad. I'd crack a beer every day around 3 PM, have a couple while finishing up work, then head downstairs to cook dinner. That would lead to some bourbon, going out in the yard with the kids for an hour, and come back in and fix another. A couple of years ago I tried to cut back, and my wife and I said we would only drink on the weekends because the during the week drinking was getting to be too much.
She realized it well before I did that we had a problem. She was also never much of a drinker, but was putting away vodka and water all the time. When we cut back, we started noticing family members when they were drunk, and that was eye opening. Didn't want our kids to see us like that, and in the fall of 2021 we started eating healthier and limiting ourselves to a couple of drinks on Friday and Saturday night. It was the first step of not having any in the week, and the second step of limiting how much on the weekends. Eventually, I didn't want to ruin the hard work of losing weight and being healthier by getting drunk every Saturday night. I went from October of 2021 until July 4th of 2022 without a beer. I'd still occasionally have some bourbon, but not buying the beer really helped. Then I went from July 4th to a vacation in October of that year completely dry. Had a couple at dinner one night, and then from there until New Year's Eve dry, where I had a couple with my Dad watching bowl games. I've been dry this whole year, and it has been great. Sleep better, don't carry extra weight, quit snoring, save money, etc.
I'm not saying I'll be dry the rest of my life, but I wanted to prove to myself I could go a whole year without anything.

was always a big drinker through college and all that... then transitioned from that into being into whiskey and cocktails. Now with a kid I generally don't pour anything till awhile after he's gone to bed. Not that I'm gonna turn into a shite head after 1 pour... but hard to sit back and enjoy a glass with a toddler running around

I drank a lot in college, worked in Tigerland so it kind of came with the job. Then started working out and eating healthier and cut out alcohol as part of making healthier habits. After a while, just stopped even thinking about it. I'll have a beer or a glass of wine if my wife offers me one on the weekend or if I go to my buddy's houses, but otherwise I don't even think about alcohol.

I’m probably going to move to a small town around the same time, so I won’t have friends to go out with and the bars probably won’t even be fun. I already don’t drink at home, just at bars when I’m with friends.

I preferred other substances and just drink occasionally like I always have.

My weakness is junk food. Never cared for drugs and alcohol

I started drinking at 18 and kept
It up till 2 years ago at 61. I had a couple breaks during that time. However I got to the point
I just didn’t care anymore and was just going through the motions in every aspect of life. But after we lost house to IDA I went into even more of a depression and got really bad. I couldn’t have just a couple. I had to have at least 8 tall boys everyday and even more on weekends. I finally woke up one morning after passing out (again) and said I’m done with this shite. November 6th 2021. HAvent touched a drop since. Best choice I have ever made.

I'll have a few beers watching a ball game with friends or w/e. i maybe drink 2 or 3 times a year. If someone HAS to have a drink on a consistent basis, they should stop drinking. It's their own fault for having a problem with it even if they have a psychological and/or physical issue that makes them susceptible, still their own fault.

I simply don’t like the taste of most drinks, so I never really get into it for the most part.
