Still freshly sober but nearing 3 weeks. Oddly I'm enjoying it and it hasn't been difficult so far. But I'm building a support system and learning tools now to help when the cravings start again, which I know will happen. If it was always easy people wouldn't relapse, even after decades of sobriety. Taking it one day at a time, but I can already see why people enjoy sober living.

Can you imagine wanting a bottle of booze, only to find out the only liquor store was closed for three weeks? That would have felt like an eternity. Celebrate your sobriety with that same mindset, three weeks as a damn long time and you should be proud of it.

Technically, I guess I’m a very light drinker. I may have a drink once a month on average.

I can get “drunk 4-5 times a year. And when I do I generally have a rocking headache.

My worst offender, even after just two drinks, is bourbon. That really sucks because I really like the taste.

I drank in HS and drank like a fish in college. I just got tired of feeling like hammered dog shite the day after. Plus, I’m old now and it won’t be socially accepted for me to be shite faced day drinking for another thirteen years or so once I’m retired.

No offense, but that’s a dumb and lazy statement.. it’s *your* life, you decide what “is”, you are not some helpless victim .

As for me, I dont like how alcohol makes me feel or the effect it has on me, so I simply dont imbibe .

Wife and I haven't had a drink in a little over 3 years. We did the typical partying when we were in high school/college and into our young adult years.

We just decided there was no benefit to drinking anymore and quit 3 years ago. So far, it's been a great decision.

Usually 2-3 times a year I'll have 4-6 drinks. Outside of those occasions I may have 1 drink per month.

Alcohol doesn't hit my pleasure centers as strongly as other people it seems, and the desire to drink isn't there. Sure, in some situations for me drinking can be fun, it's just those situations rarely arise.

Those first few weeks seem like an eternity.

She should be proud.

Same thing here man. I treated my body like a playground for damn near two decades. It was easy for me to “pause” that lifestyle with one simple thought.

It wasn’t fair to my small son that I would want to get angry with him when he woke up crying and I was hungover. Once that epiphany really hit me, it was easy to not even start the process.

Drinking was killing me. I was either going to stop or die. I chose the stop 7 years ago.

If you’ll read all these responses the majority of them is people that obv don’t know what moderation is.

Pretty much everyone I know drinks and pretty much everyone for them does it moderation.

Of course we all got shite faced and binge drank in hs and college.
But then you become a grown up most people start acting like one.

I feel bad for people that can’t control it
Somthjhg I’ve never experienced

That’s what did it.

For me the juice wasn’t worth the squeeze. Hangovers go from a nuisance to a two day suck fest. All the usual symptoms along with depression and ANXIETY. It stopped being a morning of Gatorade and Motrin and you’re fine by dinner.

Haven’t quit, but knocked back drinking to maybe once a month. Had a point where I was downing a bottle of wine once a week.

Now its maybe a beer or two one day a month. Not worth the extra calories to me

ve always planned to quit when I’m about 30.

I partied a ton from 21 til now and I want to cut it out completely eventually because it is bad and I think life will just be better without it. Also I like to smoke the pot. I will probably continue to just do this.

that was me until life got hard.. now Im struggling to break the habit

Watching my alcoholic father kill himself with the bottle did it for me. Whiskey turned him into a monster. he knew it but would not give it up. He died alone in his home with nothing or no one .

Not too much at all. Maybe a 6 pack a night to calm the nerves, bottle of jack to take the edge off a little.

Basically grew up and out of it
Haven't had a drop in 25 years now
25 years ago was the second car on the scene of a head on collision that had a drunk take the lives of a grandmother, daughter, and granddaughter. 3 generations of one man's life vanished in a second due to the decision of someone deciding to drink and not know when to stop. Then getting behind the wheel! The drunk survived. The female voices we heard suffering died at the scene.
frick drunk drivers. You kill you deserve death!

Been cutting back big time in my 30s because it just makes me feel like shite. I’m mostly a social drinker and stick to a good cocktail over binge beer/wine drinking.

It was absolutely a wonder drug to me. Weed doesnt do much for me.

I didnt get violent, forgetful, it just eased my guilt. It works very well.
