I thought the legality of it is you are only legally entitled to have it back if the engagement breaks off prior to marriage, so I don't know why she would need to lie about it being stolen nor what your jeweler has to do with it.

You are correct. For Alabama at least. I was with my first fiancee for 8 years before she got tired of chasing me down at parties. She had made and wanted to keep the ring she had worn for 5 years and honestly she earned it for all that I put us through.
BUT being the 25 yo jerk that I was, I got a lawyer involved just to get it back (because we didnt wed which was considered as the legal difference) and trade it to a buddy for a lifted jeep that I ran into the ground to SHOW her.

I began growing a conscious right after and my actions still overwhelm me with guilt every now and then. Its been over 10 years too

If the woman is pure she gives it back.

Only a whore would keep it. Ridiculous.

I’ve seen some on Facebook Marketplace

You could always trade it in for a watch at a jeweler

She kept the ring and my savings account. But that’s 29 years ago. Retired this March with no debt, a decent savings and able to live off SS. She’s on husband #3 and will never retire.

I did do was demand the rings as "the terms of the contract had been broken"

It’s not a “contract”. Unless you bought one from Russia. What a weird way of thinking.

First and second, no idea. Third sold the diamonds and melted the gold into a pendant.
