This is probably craving. It's normal and will get better with time. It takes a while to really get past the anxiety created by not being able to change a feeling with a substance like your brain has become used to. But give it time, it gets better and you will make better decisions.

10 days is just the very early stages. I’m glad you quit though. Give it a month or so and you will start feeling much better.

Your body is still adjusting, physiologically and chemically. After 21 days, you will start to notice some changes in awareness, sleep, energy, attitude and cravings further between. After 4-6 weeks, you will be feeling great, easily overcome any of the little cravings and weight management will be there. After 6-8 weeks, everyone else will notice your skin, eyes, weight, attitude, and energy

1. Morality

Ever behaved with chemically clouded judgment that negatively impacted you, your reputation and / or those you love the most?
Add the times that you cannot remember (>1 safe assumption?).

2. Relationships - Ever have the booze impact your relationships? Or the less obvious but certain number of people who would have been great to have in your life but they distanced themselves from you. Or the people who boozed with you were to friends what solid is to cotton candy.

3. Risk - ever drive tipsy or drunk? Financial and freedom/guilt-ridden risk (if hurt someone) that comes with that, not to mention your own well being, is almost immeasurable.

4. Health - bet you consumed way more calories while boozing, and unhealthy ones, than you otherwise would. Not to mention liver damage and cancer risk.

…to name some.

This is like complaining about not losing 100 lbs after dieting for a week. This takes time man, the first years are tough - I just hit six years sober and still have cravings and dreams of booze.
So far everything about me has changed - emotionally, spiritually, physically and all for the better. Give it longer than a week my dude.

I used to drink a 6 pack, go to the gym and swim 1.5 miles, then come home finish off the case while I smoke a blunt.

That made me want to vomit just reading it.

I went 9 months without drinking. I started having drinks during social events, and I keep a bourbon collection now where I have no more than 1-3 drinks once or twice a week.

The main benefit you'll see will come later and it's mainly overall better health. Drinking is poison. It's a poison that affects everyone differently, but always negatively. I think everyone should be aware of that. Drinking in social situations infrequently I think has positives that may outweigh the negatives, as long as you are having 1-2 drinks to loosen up and talk to people you'd normally not talk to. That doesn't mean having 4-5 bourbons and shouting about politics is the move. Unfortunately, a lot of people can't have 1-2 and then go home.

Edit - I also like to keep bourbon in case anyone comes over. Right now I'm buying bottles in the 60-80 range, which makes me hesitant to have more than 1-2 pours at a time. Also, I used to have this thing where I had 1 bottle and then I'd have 3-4 drinks left in it, so I'd go "might as well finish it off". Keeping multiple bottles removes that line of thinking. It's not intuitive but it's worked so far.

Nicotine and smoke fukks up your taste buds. Depending on how often and how long you smoked, your sense of taste will return.

Jafari Rastaman checking in here. I have been smoke and drink free for 20 days. I am feeling even better than I did 10 days ago. I ran 10 miles last week and swam 3 miles. I have already lost 8 lbs and my beer belly is noticeably smaller.

I couldn’t have done it without the TD community. But also, if I can do it then anybody here can.

I’ve never smoked, so I can’t speak to that. Drinking is not a black or white issue like most are making it out to be. Having a couple glasses of wine at dinner or meeting friends for a couple every once in a while is 100% acceptable. There is nothing wrong with enjoying the taste while spending quality time with family/friends. Now going out everyday and drinking 4/5 drinks is absolutely not healthy, but life is way too short not to enjoy something in moderation.
