I guess things have changed in the last 20 or so years because I’m my day to be caught by your fellow soldiers as trying to duck the colors would be humiliating.

This is why I laugh when people say NFL protestors are disrespecting the flag and military. If only civilians knew...

I also find it amusing that so many people think that NFL players would feel any patriotism or respect for the United States of America at all. We are talking about people who can barely read and who couldn't tell you who fought in WW2.

We are talking about functionally illiterate, ignorant and very low-class people who would be garbage men or homeless bums if it weren't for football. That's why I find it amusing that so many people would expect these human garbage bags to have any respect for the USA and its flag.

They have no respect for anything noble (they don't even know what the word means!) and for them, the word "Honor" has as much meaning as it would to your pet cat. Why would anybody think that these worthless piles of stinking rotten human garbage would respect the USA?

They do it in the Army too. Remember the wook who got in trouble for tweeting about how she was hiding in her car during colors?

It wasn't extremely common but I've seem my fair share of people doing it. Especially during bad weather. I've also seen guys get the shite smoked out of them for doing it. If I were ever tempted, that was enough for me not to do it.

Only boots get caught outside for colors. Everyone else has enough sense to plan ahead. If you had to be outside, just be near a vehicle.

How does being near a vehicle help? Do you lay down on the floorboard so no one can see you or something?

I don't recall the anthem being played. I remember Reveille, Retreat, Taps and a few others.

I wouldn't go out of my way to avoid standing and saluting the flag at 5 pm when retreat was played, but if I were leaving work around 5-ish I might sometimes stay inside while it played.

It's an interesting point.

I think the NFL players thing is a crock of shite ... people who are standing in line buying a beer, etc. and not saluting, worrying about what the players do. Our society plays a ridiculous level of significance on sports in this country, I am as guilty as the next person. NFL players are professional athletes. Nothing more. They don't have to be paragons of virtue or patriotic. Why the frick does it matter what they do, or don't do, before the game?

On the other hand, the NFL makes a big deal about being patriotic .... and there's certainly nothing wrong with that. But I could care less whether the players sit, stand, kneel or whistle zippy de do dah during the Anthem. I am sympathetic to their cause but personally think doing anything other than standing at attention is not what I'd do. But the fact some jock does otherwise? Who cares?

And this a-hole Trump? Having the gall to criticize McCain's service ("I like soldiers who aren't captured.") while he himself skirted service? Tweeting inappropriate messages on Memorial Day, always drawing attention to himself? Promoting stupid "MAGA" merchandise ("25% off on Memorial Day!") Frankly, as a vet I want to vomit every time I see him or hear him speak.

Uh, reveille is played in the morning. Usually just before PT formation. At least that's what I remember.

One of the proudest moments I had as a company commander was when one of my little shitstain E4s tried to duck out of retreat and the Privates in his squad drug his arse out to stand and salute the colors.

Then my 1SG took over.

I don't care enough to search old posts, but someone posted a thread just like this last year.
