Hypothetical for you guys.

I flip the Ace on the deal.
I win the first 2 tricks

Am I know required to play the Ace? One of the guys said you are because you have to guarantee you win the pot, but if I didn't flip it and just drew it they wouldn't even know that I had it. I had a chance to Bourre one other player so I was trying to hold it as long as possible.

What says the OT?

Is this like the blackjack player who screws up everybody else's hand?

And bourre is trashy.

You HAVE to play to win, meaning bourreing as many people as possible. You must play the ace or people will call you out. Period.

No..your goal is to win the pot and then bourre' your competitors to increase the pot therefore you play the Ace when it best fits that objective

Yes you are required to play the ace then any remaining trump cards in descending order followed by your best off suit.

in the scenario he described it doesnt mean he has to play the ace to win. we don't know what other cards hes holding vs the cards played. he could have another high trump

If you have 3 Aces you can play the two off suit Aces to try to win that round knowing you will win the pot when you play the suited Ace.

My people are from St Landry parish. Around there, if you've got a cinch hand, you play the highest card. Otherwise you've renegged. Rules may be different in other regions.

what? so if he's trump suited and wins with a 7 and a queen then the other players play off suit and he still has the 10 and ace trump he has to throw the ace? nah. he can throw whatever he wants.

HAVE TO PLAY TO WIN!!! You can't slough off in bouree' The name of the game is bouree', so you are trying to bouree' others by playing to win every time.

Yea, you have a cinch, you have to play it. Otherwise you bourre and have to match the pot.

Also, if you have the next highest card in your hand after the Ace was played to win the 3rd trick, you have to play it.

Yes, you have to play your Ace and continue to fish out everyone else's trump cards with whatever trump cards you have.

Then watch your four of diamonds walk on the last trick because no one else has diamonds to furnish

Yes! The name of the game is Bourre. You will be matching the pot at me and my padnuhs' table if you don't come strong with that Ace after already winning 2 tricks.

playing to win or sloughing is only relevant if you're not the one leading. He can lead with whatever he wants. If someone throws a low trump and he doesn't throw the ace than thats different. There are scenarios where leading with that ace could backfire if they have higher offsuits after that.

How does it backfire in this scenario if he's already won 2 tricks? He's holding a cinch in his hand! How does a cinch backfire? You need to spend more time at the camp, padnuh.

He has no idea what cards other players have in their hand. There's no "potentially" with a cinch. There's not much for discussion here. You play your way, but don't cry when the old men at the camp are making you match the pot.
