DTL situation was awful. My friend’s girlfriend was a roommate of Pace (Lord Helmet: That makes us nothing!) His stories about the FBI questioning and weird happenings around the house afterwards would give you goosebumps. The FBI was certainly looking for a white guy. There was a report of a black guy with torn, bloddy clothes in Tigerland around the time of the murder that was dismissed by the FBI.

Those were tense times for sure.

It sure sucked being a white guy driving around in a single cab, white truck at that time.

I told this story on here a few times. At the time, I was in college, working for local government Building Inspection & Permit department. The inspector had to go check someone's electrical pole before entergy would hook it up. He pulled up and it was a trailer in a rural area.

The parish trucks were white. He was getting out of the truck and this older woman comes out the front door with a shotgun in her hand. He jumped back in, took off and told me to go ahead and contact Entergy to tell them everything was fine.

He said he wasn't going to get shot over an electric pool. If anything was wrong with it Entergy would see it when they got there...lol..

As I remember, it wasn't a Baton Rouge cop who cracked the case either, it was a guy who may have been an Attorney General investigator or something. He remembered a case he had worked where a couple making out had been attacked. He pulled the case file, one thing led to another, and thus Lee was arrested.

I may have some of my facts a little off but I think that's the gist of it.

Yeah, I don't remember the exact details either, but I want to say DTL name was actually mentioned early on in the investigation and the lead investigators just pushed it aside. If I recall, it was someone within government.. So it might have been an AGI.

As they continued to investigate, that's when they realized there was a chance someone was killing women who lived risky lifestyles (prostitutes) and was able to get him pretty quick, but was flooded out of the media because they knew someone else was out there.. And when the investigators couldn't come up with nothing else, they went to the name that was suggested early on in the case.

I know there was a lot of bullshite, who has the bigger dick, type stuff that went on, but to what degree I have no idea.

DTL is overrated, his methods were so..just..meh..

If louisiana had some competence he probably would have been caught a lot sooner. Just seemed like any other BR dindu, just missing a few more IQ points.

Sean Vincent Gillis is the frightening one people dont mention. That double life shite is always crazy to me.

It was a detective from Zachary who knew about DTL from working several cases involving him starting in the early 1990's

I mean, if you're talking about making a documentary interesting or a movie, I guess. But he was fricking brutal with the women he killed. Like I said, dude had retarded strength. (Think Lennie from "Of Mice and Men", and if Lennie was a serial killer who raped and brutally killed women.)

He was not smart. He was just a cold hearted strong motherfricker who thought he could have what he wanted and just discard them when he finished.

I am. He gets a lot of talk and as someone who has followed true crime for 20+ years, his case frustrates me and annoys me. He should have been caught sooner.

I just brought this up a few days ago. This is an interesting thread that will get no traction because of the OP.

I’m telling you, I’m on to something here. This is a sociological study waiting to happen.

What, that black serial killers exist?

Is it a question even? They are 13% of the population in the us and in fact over represented in serial killers

quote:

Surprisingly, only 12.5% of US serial killers in Aamodt's database fit what most consider the typical profile — a white male in his late mid- to late-20s. While 92.3% of US serial killers (94.4% internationally) are male, only 52.1% are white. Only 27% are in their mid- to late-20s. From 1990 to 2010, the most recent year of data in the project, 52.1% of US serials killers were white, while 40.3% were black. The numbers don't change much internationally either. Worldwide, 56.2% are white, while 30% are black.

Rethinking serial killers

Normal People have a “profile” because they only know about the big name heavy hitters. Gein, Bundy, Gacy, Jack the Ripper, H H Holmes, etc.

The reality shows that serial killers span all races and intelligences.

They had his DNA after CMP. She fought like a tiger and stabbed him with a screwdriver. They finally agreed to run his DNA through a new system that a small Tampa company had set up. It gave his racial breakdown.

About the same time, he attacked a woman west of Lafayette. Her son came home during the attack and DTL escaped. He was driving a gold Hyundai with a Levis Mitsubishi license plate on the front. They went through Levis' records of selling used Mitsubishis that were gold. They went to his house and swabbed him, then left.

When his DNA came back, they went and got him.

I think one of the cops was literally choking back tears talking about how great a job he had done.

That was the Chief of Police, Pat Englade. They had done a horrible job of PR and were absolute assholes to the public. CJ classes are taught around this, teaching people how to interact more positively with the public. They use this investigation as an example of how not to do it.

They also knew of the existence of these serial killers for years before they let the public in on it. They kept it quiet because they didn't want to alarm the public, and be pressured into solving it. The detective that put it together, and hid it, is a huge name in local law enforcement circles.

Yep. The Zachary detective knew DTL was up to no good and just had to be patient. He passed away several years ago.

I am pretty sure he was caught before DTL was caught.

He wasn't book smart by any means, but I think he was "charming" to some degree. He was able to appear not as a threat, but I know the women he killed in WBR was a bloodbath. From what I understand blood covered the living room of the trailer. Blood was also on the walls throughout the house.

Sean Vincent Gillis He started before, stopped when DTL was doing his thing, and then started again after DTL was caught

DTL started as early as 1991. It was my Sr year at Central when he attacked the two teens with a machete in a Zachary cemetery. Also not far from the neighborhood of his next victims, Randi Mebruer & Connie Warner.

There would probably be a lot more serial murder, if some people were smart enough to evade.

They very much dismissed it. McDavid (think that’s his name), with Zachary PD, gave the task force his name numerous times. He took it upon himself to get a warrant for DTL’s DNA bc EBRSO refused to listen to him.
