re: Question about having covid but being asymptomatic

I agree with you here. People don't realize how much they touch and cross contaminate. From the time they leave the store they touch keys, doorknobs, light switches, steering wheels, car dials, etc and then wash their hands. If they picked up the virus then it's on all those items possibly.

I'm in healthcare. I have parents/inlaws that are older. My husbands employees are older. All of them are some level of compromised. I'm not heartless -- I know four older people who have died and 45+ that are positive.
Know anyone that has used an hyperbaric chamber to treat this shite?
There is a doctor in St Landry parish doing that right now with good results.
On a side note, there is also a nursing home in a small town that has had 25 deaths according to family member who lives in that town. That is a staggering number.

So what is the answer then? You should stay home forever? Of course that's unrealistic, at least to me. If you're asymptomatic you won't know it so you won't know if it's ever "safe" to go out.
Yes forever even though it lasts 2 weeks.

Can anyone name any other viruses/diseases that have asymptomatic carriers that can pass it on? I'm sure there are some that my brain just can't think of now.
Lol
Uh.. the flu

Is there a hyperbaric chamber in Opelousas?? I wouldn’t have thought that. I’ve been in one in BR 20 plus years ago and just assumed smaller areas wouldn’t have them.

Yep,
Father in Law had a really bad infection in his arm a few years ago. If I remember correctly, the doctor who treated him is actually the son of the old family doctor in their small town. Same doctor is trying this on COVID19 patients.

Or maybe not the flu?

We performed a systematic review of published studies describing the relationship between viral shedding and disease transmission. Based on the available literature, we found that there is scant, if any, evidence that asymptomatic or presymptomatic individuals play an important role in influenza transmission. As such, recent articles concerning pandemic planning, some using transmission modeling, may have overestimated the effect of presymptomatic or asymptomatic influenza transmission. More definitive transmission studies are sorely needed.

I read an article that said the fact that this virus has so many asymptotic carriers indicates it is not that virulent a virus to start with. If you get the flu, you have symptoms...

So again, I ask, how will "they" know when it's safe to "let" everyone return to normal life?
It appears that the vast majority of states are using the federal guideline to reopening

That's what I thought. But how do you know if you have it if you don't have symptoms that warrant testing? It's a circle.

But a vaccine can't be mandatory so there will still be asymptomatic people as I would guess "some" won't take it, like me.
Weird.

So .. how do they ever "let" us out given that it seems to be a vicious circle??? I'm having a hard time putting into words what I want to know .. I hope someone understands and can offer an answer or theory because I'm done with this crap.
We'll just go back to normal, in a slowly rolled out fashion. Those who get it, we'll deal with as we go. As we see fewer and fewer cases, we slowly do away with the restrictions eventually getting back to the normal we were used to before this.
That's the only answer.

If you're vulnerable(old or underlying conditions) you stay home, if not you go about your business with restrictions in the short term, back to normal in the long term.
Obviously generalizing a lot here, but this way herd immunity would be developed by all of the asymptomatic carriers getting the virus in a more safe manner, if you will. It's not perfect, vulnerable folks will still get it and die, the very rare case of a healthy, younger person will get it and still die. Those things happen with the common flu as well, we can't avoid that.

The risk of asymptomatic spread is completely overblown.
The first advice everyone received was the correct advice.
Wash your hands. Be OCD about it.
Stop touching your face. Be OCD about it.
If you don't feel well. Stay home.
These 3 things would have been enough to manage this without any shutdown.
The current mask shite is complete bullshite.

I saw a really good article talking about the evidence that lockdowns help is really not there. Logically, I'm sure a lockdown does help, it just doesn't seem entirely necessary. The article showed how studies seemingly credit lockdowns for reduced case totals, but those same studies across the US, Italy, & Spain consistently showed that the improvement would start within 5 days of the lockdown, which is obviously not realistic and would take a bit longer to see those benefits. The ultimate takeaway was that the masks/limiting large gatherings/quarantining the vulnerable was the real reason for the reduced case totals.

Shelter-in-place until you can get antibody tested.

I;m skeptical of a new vaccine and I refuse to take one that comes out of China. I would rather take my chances given my personal situation as opposed to taking a vaccine that perhaps was rushed.

Masks would be fine in a perfect world where everyone was educated about how to wear your mask, how to handle your mask, how to clean (if possible) and how to store your mask.
No one understands any of this and because of it, they and everyone else would be better off if no one wore a mask.
The sick and those caring for the sick need masks.
The moron with a t-shirt mask they touch constantly, lay on the kitchen counter and never properly wash is a hazard. Also the person on week two with a single use surgical mask.
This is more common in the real world. Look around.
