Horrible week found out my pops has cancer in liver from lung cancer. Now today found out my dog whom is 16 has kidney failure stage 2. Anyone ever had pet with that happen to them? They want to pump fluids in her twice a week . Cost us no issue but is it worth it? June has been horrible to me. One if my best friend passed at work. Cousin passed unexpected during stent implanting, wife brother passed heart attack , my pops found out about stage 4 cancer now in liver and now dog has kidney failure. Any help would be appreciated. This is my online family, actually love you guys , helps keep my sanity.

I’m really sorry you are going through so much at once.
We had a dog go through the same thing, they gave us the saline bags to do at home.
Honestly I think we lasted 3 or 4 days doing it, you could tell she wasn’t herself & we were just poking her to delay the inevitable.
My opinion is no, it is not worth it. It’s not worth putting her through the poking & prodding & trips back & forth to the vet to possibly give her another few weeks or months.
Again, I’m very sorry & will say a prayer for you & your family.

the decision should be about quality of life for the pet and the family....we recently had to put down a 15 year old pet. you could tell she was suffering with arthritis, as she walked with a definitive hobble, was slow to get up, and could no longer "jump" or reach up to take a treat.
yo could tell she was in discomfort and pain... she was also starting to have kidney and other organ issues, so we begrudgingly had to put her down, but knew it was the best decision for her.
you, just need to decide are you helping or just prolonging the situation.....

Dog is 16 and that’s a really healthy age for a canine. Never been through this exact thing with my dogs, but sometimes you have to let go without letting him suffer too much. Sorry for all that you’ve been through recently. That’s a tough run. Hang in there pal!

My best advice is if the dog isn’t in discomfort and not hacking up liquid bc the heart, lungs are working overtime take it week by week.

What breed is your dog. 16 years is long unless it's a little dog.

I'm so sorry Baller. We had to put our GSD down this week too due to stomach and spleen cancer and it feels like my chest has been shattered.
Last year, we had the same issue with our 17 year old and we did the subQ fluids at home for awhile. She was a bit of a baby about the needle but it really wasn't too bad when my wife and I did it together. I think it helped to buy us some time until her body just couldn't go anymore. It definitely saved money doing it at home instead of bringing her to the vet everyday for fluids. Looking back on it, she was just so tired and worn out. I'm so sorry about your dad and family. Grief is unavoidable but so incredibly painful.

That’s different, ours was late stage, she really wasn’t eating or drinking
Good luck, I hope you are able to get more time with her

Absolutely, we're in a ton of grief right now. We trust in the Lord and our dogs belong to him. In reality, everything belongs to him, he just lets us enjoy them for a little while. I miss him so bad I could just lay on the floor and cry but I trust in God that he has his hands on ours and all the rest of creation and he loves them even more than I ever could.

Sorry man.
And I’m saying this sincerely, in 20 years of message boarding, it’s become clear to me that once a poster types a post like this about an old dog, it means it’s usually time.
Seems to be part of the accepting process.

So sorry about everything. For your dog, the question is what will the quality of life be with the treatments. Is it painful for them or does it make them feel ill or whatever. Ask all of those questions and if the dog is fine and the treatment is no big deal and her quality of life is good, then do it. If not, then you have to make the tough decision unfortunately.
