Over the years we had senior cats with kidney issues that required subcutaneous fluids twice a week. Vet sold us the lactated ringer bags with tubes attached. Just had switch / use clean needles each time. Was pretty simple and easy to do. For the most part they took it well. Poke them in the scruff and watch the big bubble form under the skin. Probably 6+ months of doing that per cat. During that period of treatment their activity was "normal" so I felt it was worth it and probably extended their lives with additional quality. Eventually they declined and had to be put down, but that was always expected. I think it gave us the extra 6 months and was only a minor inconvenience. Your miles may vary.

Im sorry for all this. On the dog issue, dont go thru that. You are only delaying the inevitable. 16 is a good long life for a dog.

So sorry to hear about what you're going through. Fluids are definitely worth a try and can really help for a while. We recently had to let our best friend go when he couldn’t handle the fluids anymore, but they gave us one more incredible year with him. While it's more of a bandaid than a cure, if it buys you some more good, comfortable days right now, it is absolutely worth it. I hope you find some peace knowing you’re doing everything you possibly can for your pet.
