Pedigree killed my dog. Gave him kidney disease. Don’t go with the cheap ones. They will slowly poison your dog.

Cheap dog food is like feeding a person McDonalds every meal

Girlfriend (no pics) is a vet and all of our dogs get Purina Pro Plan. As others have mentioned, the issue with grain free diets is real.
There is nothing wrong with Science Diet and we have used it in the past, but you are right about the price.

feed the Weiner dog pro plan 30/20. it comes highly recommended by the breeder, who feeds all 45 of hers the same. Dog loves it and for a breed that can get chubby quickly, her weight always stays the same.

My vet cautioned me regarding grain free diets for dogs that include peas and legumes, as there may be a link to those ingredients and cardiomyopathy.
I've read this, and the results are 120 deaths in a 5 year period. I'm not trying to be mean about this, but that is 1 death every half a month potentially related to this. That doesn't seem like something worthy of worrying about. of course if it's your dog who the hell cares what I or anyone else says; I would be the same way if my guy got sick from food

The common denominator was they ate grain-free dog food---ALL brands...there is a lot of research going on about it. It is not the absence of grain that is a problem
Sorry but this is BS. It’s all pushed by Hill, Purina, and Iams bc they’re profits are getting smoked by owners making healthier decisions.
Here’s the gist of it: they’re claiming DCM is caused by a lack of taurine and that grain free food isn’t sufficient in taurine. Taurine is branch chain amino acid. BCAA’s are ONLY found in protein sources, not carbohydrates. So “grain free” is not the issue.
The potential issue could be some of these grain free foods are using peas or legumes as a supplement for protein. Canines cannot process these proteins like humans can.
Therefore, make sure the first couple ingredients in any of your canines food is real whole protein sources. Not some grain or bs by product.
Also, veterinarians know as much about nutrition as your doctor, which ain’t shite.

Diamond dog food
People may scoff at this but it is an excellent option. I have had Ridgebacks all my adult life and they go through a LOT of food. My vet recommended Diamond over 25 years ago when they mainly sold through feed and seed stores. I have fed the original red bag food (for adults) ever since then and have had zero issues and the vet is still complimentary of the food and my dogs health as far as food is concerned. I still buy it at the same feed and seed store but you can buy it at a wide variety of places including Chewy now.

My dog usually feasts on toddlers or immobile seniors. Breed of peace.

A previous poster included a link to an old FDA report that zeroed in on grain free pet foods as being the link to dogs developing DCM. Here is the most recent FDA report that can't pinpoint the increase in DCM cases given that the reported cases have no common food diets:

You'll want about about a 3:1 mix of Purina and Ol' Roy for optimal performance.
A lot of our customers make wet pet food. I happen to be in Iowa a new plant trying to get off the ground and one of the items they produce is Ol’Roy
