Purina Pro Plan is the answer if you have a large breed. Not sure I would spend the extra dough on it if I was fostering a large number of dogs though.

We give our Purina One. She loves it. We switch between chicken+rice flavor and salmon+tuna flavor when a bag runs out. A little cheaper than pro plan too.

What’s up with the serial downvotes of pro plan and no responses?

Our vet recommended switching off grain free as well. We had been giving our Taste Of the Wild, but now give her Purina Pro Plan.

Kirkland’s from Costco.

The dogs always make happy bowls.

Interesting thread.

I had no idea about the grain-free issue.

We switched to Veterinary Select a couple of years ago.

Been feeding mine the PetSmart brand (Authority) lamb and rice mix for a couple years after switching from Natural Balance (I think) that was way more expensive. Dog loves it and I've seen a noticeable difference in her skin. She had a couple of hit spots she would rub raw every few weeks and nothing would help it. It's stopped since we switched.

We've been feeding our golden pup Pro Plan Puppy Lamb & Rice since we got her. She loves that stuff and we're about to move up to the normal Pro Plan

My vet cautioned me regarding grain free diets for dogs that include peas and legumes, as there may be a link to those ingredients and cardiomyopathy.

I didn't see your post before replying the exact same thing! I thought I was doing a good thing for my dog and instead it could've killed her. I hope companies are making changes to their formulas!

Second this - feed my 6 y/o GSD FF large breed (the non-grain free version).

I also use Stella and Chewy's freeze dried raw nuggets as a topper for him.

I have given mine Redford’s and they like it, but they love those Purina pouches.

Listen to these baws about the DCM in dogs. It isn’t just grain free dog food either: Fromm, Origen, Nutrish, Blue Buffalo, Taste of the Wild, Acana, Zignature, and more are linked to DCM.

Here is a link from the FDA about DCM caused by diet: LINK
