ETA for July 20, 2019: I am bumping this to see what I can learn from the hoaxers out there. I only heard from a few of you in June.

Original Post:
I'm planning at least a couple threads next month, during the fiftieth anniversary of Apollo XI's amazing journey, which was July 16-24, 1969. But with a month to go, I thought I would do a little brain-scanning of the people out that I find perplexing and confounding, but still intriguing... the "Moon Landing Hoaxers".

This thread is for you hoaxers; what is your motivation?

In my review of YouTube videos on the subject, online postings, O-T member comments, and a few in-person conversations, I have put the moon landing hoaxers into four categories:

100% Conspiracy Theorists: if the government is involved, and we know governments can lie, therefore it must be a lie.

Cultural Vandals: it is a sad, but true fact that if the original Declaration of Independence or the Mona Lisa were displayed, unguarded, in almost any public location... the resulting damage/destruction would honestly not take all that long. Those destroyers are vandals. A cultural vandal has somewhat of the same mindset, in that all proud beliefs/understandings of a society must be marginalized... just because. Somewhere inside these people, there comes extreme satisfaction in the destruction of these physical items and/or or societal achievements.

Low Intellect: look, there are smart folks and there are dumb folks. Dumb folks are often good, decent, hard-working people.. just not very smart. Some dumb folks are smart and talented enough to be millionaires playing basketball, while believing the Earth is flat. It is what it is. Some movers I hired a year ago, when my mother in law bragged that I worked for NASA, the first thing they wanted to know was if the moon landings really happened. These were good men, very skilled at their job, and both were good fathers. But yea, that's what they wanted to know.

Trolls/Contrarians: the O-T has plenty of these. Most of you know we landed on the moon, for the most part, but it is fun for you to challenge the concept in a thread like this, basically for entertainment value. You are a bit of a cultural vandal, but more benign.

Are there any I am missing? Note: there can be some bleed-over between these categories.

My goal in this thread is to find out what motivates you. There isn't a single point you can make that I cannot refute, regarding the validity of the moon landings. If the thread goes down that hole, I guess I will partake... but I am hoping to learn a bit more about you.

SUPPLEMENTAL / CREDIBILITY

I have spent a decent amount of time since the mid-1980s as a fan of the space program, including a nearly 15 year stint as an ISS flight controller and Space Shuttle engineer. In that time, I have proven to myself, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that there were six manned lunar landing missions, and three that orbited or rounded the moon. I have closely looked at nearly EVERY conspiracy theory the hoaxers have come up with, and every single one fails critical muster. Some of them even PROVE that the landings were authentic, but the hoaxers misunderstanding of physics/science leads them to an incorrect conclusion (the "waving flag" is an example of this, a misunderstanding of simple harmonic motion in a near-vacuum vs. in atmosphere).

Note: I have no way to personally, independently "prove" that American astronauts landed and walked on the Moon. Every bit of evidence comes from sources that I cannot personally, 100% verify. Even if I fired a laser at the Moon and timed the return signal strength when fired at Apollo landing sites (high strength) vs. general lunar locations (low strength)... that would only prove, essentially, that man-made reflectors were at that location, not necessarily that men walking on the moon put them there. But that would at least prove mankind's ability to launch a spacecraft and land it on the Moon intact (excluding alien theories).

By the same token, no one out there can 100% verify that LSU beat Auburn 22-21 on Sept. 22, 2018 unless you attended the game. All other sources out there, including TV, are NOT 100% personal verification. Some of the Flat Earthers / Alex Jones types might say that being at the game one can be fooled too, as it could all be a hologram, or we are all part of the matrix... but I am discounting those folks.

Alan Shepard sliced the shot with his 6-iron.
No refuting that.

I'd enjoy drinking a beer and talking about THIS.

As for the "hoax" part...not remotely interested in entertaining them or their ideas. But, you enjoy the endeavor...so, have a good time

Look at the shadows in pictures taken on the moon. Their length and how parallel they are can only be produced by a very bright light source that is very far away. That can't be reproduced in any studio.

I don't have questions. I just enjoy speaking with people who have had interesting experiences / careers. Hell, if you had said you were a Bee Keeper..I'd want to talk about that.

1st page...but to address the actual thread content, I do believe we landed on the moon. I think most hoaxers are looking for attention of some kind, or at least looking to engage. I think a large part of them are fueled by debate, regardless if they truly think they are right or not.

Did Elton John really go to space or is his song "Rocketman" just yet another example of cultural appropriation?

We have no proof that George Washington was our first president or a great general. It's all a hoax.

PS - you can't prove that Slavery happened in the USA.

You cant prove the moon isnt made of cheese. All those "moon rocks" they brought back were from constructuon of the sound stage where they filmed it.

I kid, I kid. Space is some amazing stuff. I'd like to spend the afterlife just traveling through space and seeing all the amazing things there.

I believe we landed on the moon. I also believe that some of the pictures/videos were prob reproduced or manufactured. I really don’t care that they were, because I believe the landing and experience happened in some form or fashion similiar.

Lol... The "I don't want to look like an idiot, but I'm still going to believe the government faked a portion of the Moon landing as we know it because I actually am an idiot" category. That needs to be added to the op.

you hoaxers

That is a very confrontational way to start out a polite discussion.

I guess I would ask you why you just automatically believe whatever the government tells you?
