Here we go again. Why do we get these sappy threads every few months? Go cry on FB with the women and children. Life is hard and it ain’t because your dog died. Get another one, treat it well, enjoy it and realize it’s not going to live forever. Nobody needs to hear your sob story.
or you could just skip the thread. The title wasn't ambiguous, and the responses are predictable. Yet you chose to reply and make an arse out of yourself.

How pathetic of you to need attention so badly that you are willing to compete with a poor dog.

Sorry to hear that. Lost my 15 year old two weeks ago, I’m the tough guy in the family who never cries about anything, and there I was bawling into my front loops because I reached down to give the little moocher some and he wasn’t there.
I’ve got a new friend coming in a few weeks to start over with. Found I can’t do without

I use to tell my wife that when she died I would be sad but when my dog died I would cry.
She died and I was unbelievably sad, I put my dog down the beginning of December and I cried like a baby.
Pentobarbital is the med of choice and it happens fast with zero suffering by your dog.

Make sure to be in there though when they put him down.
The old man deserves you to be with him in his last moments.
Some people sit out of the room because its too tough and that shouldn't happen. Yhe dog deserves for you to be there when he moves on, hes been there for you all of those years
Agree sack up and put their paw in your hand and let their last image of you being there for them. Have done it twice and after seeing them in so much pain at the end it's as if the burden of their last painful days has been lifted. Didnt stop me from shedding some series tears though.

Would have been a tough sell to the boss, unfortunately.
12 years and you could try for 1 day?

If it is remotely an option for you, pay the extra cost to have the vet come to your home. I've done that my last couple dogs and it's worth every penny.
Did that too. The dog was at peace at home.

I'm so sorry you have to go through this.
When I married 15 years ago I inherited a dog who was great but slowly declining congnitively which led to other issues. I confess that I complained about the dog a lot because of the inconvenience. My wife loved that dog. Nine years ago, while in the hospital recovering from a c-section, my wife asked me to take the dog to the vet and put her to sleep. She couldn't do it herself, but knew it was time and asked me to go before she came home with our newborn. Ironically, I felt so guilty because I complained about the dog so much and she felt guilty because the time was way past to put her down. We felt guilty for opposite reasons. I had the fortune of being there with the dog and comforting her. My wife was so appreciative. The veterinarian was appreciative. I received a measure of closure for my complaints about the dog, as she looked at me and almost seemed to be saying thanks for ending the suffering. My conclusion is that it is an act mercy to put the dog to rest when it is obvious the time has come.

You pansies need to stop getting dogs if you feel you need to express your emotions in an online thread to strangers.
Putting a dog down is sad but what grown man wants sympathy attention by telling strangers about it?

Man, there are enough threads on whatever topic you want to you can harp on. This ain't a cry for sympathy, this is someone commiserating. Doesn't hurt any one and probably does more an a few a favor. It's cathartic.
We're celebrating Mister and feeling for his master.

Baw. I'm working on something for you. You've had '
Mister from a pup? What's his breed, or is he a mutt?
Any special things that stand out to you about him?

I am sorry that you have to go through this. I had to put down my 17 year old Tonkinese cat a few weeks ago and it still hurts even with a new kitten.
