Anyone know what size is considered a trophy? My son just caught a black species in our pond weighing 2.01 lb and just shy of 16”.

I have used it since 2011. I think it is a significant reason why I have a healthy marriage.

re: Mike Johnson is the real deal
Posted by ComebackEllisHugh on 10/25/23 at 12:08 pm to OccamsStubble
Mike Johnson is absolutely the real deal and I have no doubt that God has providentially created the circumstances that will allow him to become SOH in a few moments. He was my college SS teacher at Parkview Baptist about 23 years ago before his family moved home to Shreveport. He taught the Bible, not a book about the Bible. One Halloween night, he invited the college students to his house. We walked around his neighborhood and passed out gospel tracts to his neighbors at their doors and shared the gospel with a few of them. I remember that his wife Kelly was expecting their first child. Mike showed us a mural he painted on the wall above the crib, complete with a shepherd scene and Scripture about Jesus being the good Shepherd. You learn a lot about a man when you are invited to see his family life at home. If he is still the same godly man today that he was then, I wouldn't be surprised if he eventually tries to lead the house to repentance. He is an answered prayer if he gets elected today.

re: Putting my dog down after work
Posted by ComebackEllisHugh on 2/17/23 at 7:38 pm to Tusksup
I'm so sorry you have to go through this.
When I married 15 years ago I inherited a dog who was great but slowly declining congnitively which led to other issues. I confess that I complained about the dog a lot because of the inconvenience. My wife loved that dog. Nine years ago, while in the hospital recovering from a c-section, my wife asked me to take the dog to the vet and put her to sleep. She couldn't do it herself, but knew it was time and asked me to go before she came home with our newborn. Ironically, I felt so guilty because I complained about the dog so much and she felt guilty because the time was way past to put her down. We felt guilty for opposite reasons. I had the fortune of being there with the dog and comforting her. My wife was so appreciative. The veterinarian was appreciative. I received a measure of closure for my complaints about the dog, as she looked at me and almost seemed to be saying thanks for ending the suffering. My conclusion is that it is an act mercy to put the dog to rest when it is obvious the time has come.

Hi-Ho BBQ in Ponchatoula (the old one before it burned down). We could get three sauce buns and a root beer in the bottle on the way home from school for $2.

I still listen to cadence when I run:
Hard work
C-130 rolling down the strip
I saw an old lady walkimg down the street
They push me to run harder

re: Eye wall of cat 3 or higher.

Took my family to an Orange Beach condo in Sept 2020 for our first vacation in years. That week hurricane Sally was projected to hit near the LA/MS coast. As it started weakening to a Cat 1 we decided to stay and ride it out even though the eye was slowly creeping towards us. Last minute it rapidly intensified to a High Cat 2 (almost a 3) and slowed down to 1-2 MPH off the coast. It caught everyone in that area off guard, even the Kroger grocery store nearby was open until 1pm the same day and there was hardly any panic buying. We road through the northern eyewall all night and the huge eye for the better part of the next morning. My wife and daughters slept the while night while I stayed up praying for the RI to stop. Part of the roof started leaking, and we captured the water in bowls. I parked our van near the road after looking for the highest elevation on the FEMA flood maps. Mine was one of about seven vehicles in the complex that did not flood! Next day we drove home, cutting our vacation short by three days, but I was thankful we were just renting for the week.

It is a narrative account of historical events with a theological motive.

In these verses (vs. 24-27), Paul explains what God's judgment looks like for people and societies who reject Him. Just a few verses earlier in vs. 18, Paul states that "The wrath of God is revealed (present tense) from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men who suppress the truth in unrighteousness." All mankind has rejected God, even though there is sufficient evidence in creation for us to know we are accountable to Him (vs. 19-20). Instead of glorifying God as Creator, mankind has chosen to worship all aspects of His creation (vs. 21-23). Because of this rejection of God, He has chosen to give mankind over to their own desires as a further downward spiral. He removes restraints over our sinful desires, so that our true sin nature is revealed. It is a worldview text that explains both the Roman culture and our own.
Paul is saying in these verses that the intensified practice of sexual immortality and idolatry IS the judgement of God (in contrast to God judging us for these deeds). Only the gospel is the power of God to rescue us from His judgment, which is why Paul is not ashamed of it (vs. 16). This is Paul's argument.

re: Anyone know much about LSU ROTC challenge coins?
Posted by ComebackEllisHugh on 2/25/22 at 6:39 am to Jim Rockford
I received one of these coins around 2003 when I received a commission from LSU Army ROTC. I still have it, but would have to get it out of storage to tell you the number.
My guess is that he received this coin around the same time as a member of the Cadets of the Ole War Skule.

Could the lack of strengthening in the official forecast somehow be related to the dearth of reconnaissance planes?
re: Toyota Sienna thoughts?

We bought a 2011 LE in March 2010 and still have it. It has 125K miles on it and still runs great. Yesterday we brought it to the dealership to have the spark plugs replaced. This is standard maintenance at around 120K miles. We were told we have an oil leak by the drip pan and another by the timing belt compartment. Total repair cost is $5k. We decided to keep the money and live with the nuisance leaks (I have noticed a little bit of oil under our carport in the past but it is not significant). We will use the repair money to help pay for a new Sienna in a couple of years.
Also worth mentioning that we added an aftermarket receiver and have used the minivan to haul a 5X8 trailer and a small boat.
We decided to take a look at the 2021 Siennas while at the dealership. They are all hybrid models and the batteries have a 10 year warranty. My only concern is whether or not the faux wood grain console is scratch resistant. Otherwise, they are very nice. For $2.3K you can add a sunroof.
