I never noticed that problem in Louisiana. I see it all the time in Texas though.

Unless your car presents an unusual hazard that others need to be aware of (you've got a low tire and have to drive slower than traffic permits, you have an oversized load, things like that), you cannot use your hazards while driving. They are not there to increase visibility in the rain.

He said they mean you are stopped.

One time I saw Bobby Rahal turn his flashers on during heavy rain at the Indy 500.

Sounds like the hazard lights had the desired effect.

The only people worse than those who stop in rain are the ones who refuse to slow down.

Forget rain for a second. How about people who turn on their flashers when they are in a hurry to get somewhere. Forget that it's a personal emergency .... what are we supposed to do, pull over because you have your flashers on?

Couldn't agree more. Only idiots drive with their hazards on when raining.

I drive even faster when it's raining because I'm hoping to outrun the storm, or to get through it faster if I'm driving directly into it.

I literally do not know where my hazards lights are (on a 2009 model car).

I meant that I slow down beyond a safe level. I normally already drive slower in rain than the people around me.

This thread has been through the OT so many times, try searching and reading threads.

I didn't do the leg work in the past so I have no link to post.

I just hate it because it makes it a lot harder to see their lights when they brake or change lanes

It's basically something in the code that says you can use your hazards any time you feel it's necessary.

It's vague and ambiguous but a loop hole that allows for people to use their hazards in the rain and still not violate laws.

People don't turn their lights on at all when there is no visibility. It's not just the rain, but the mist flying up from cars.

That is dangerous as frick. At least with the hazards you can tell there is an actual car there.
