Disagree, I think not seeing cars in front of you is more dangerous. A lot of times In heavy rain, I have a hard time seeing cars in front of me... It helps if they have hazards on and I am more able to see them. it also helps those behind me to see me

Seriously, if you are having that difficult of a time seeing other vehicles just pull over to the side of the road until the rain eases up.

In Louisiana, yes. Not in every state. It is legal in Texas, Mississippi, Alabama, and Georgia to name a few. LINK

There's only 11 states where it is illegal. In every other state it is either completely legal or legal in hazardous situations.

R.S. 32:327: “Flashing lights are prohibited except on authorized emergency vehicles, school buses, or on any vehicle as a means of indicating a right or left turn, or the presence of a vehicular traffic hazard requiring unusual care in approaching, overtaking or passing.”

LINK

Unless your car presents an unusual hazard that others need to be aware of (you've got a low tire and have to drive slower than traffic permits, you have an oversized load, things like that), you cannot use your hazards while driving. They are not there to increase visibility in the rain.

Bingo. If you're in danger of hitting others while driving in the rain you're going to fast or conditions are too dangerous to drive, period.

Edited: thank you for the statute.

Also with the flashers on the turn signals are not functioning.

Traveling through Alabama a few years ago in a driving rain storm and half the gumps on the road had their hazard lights on while driving. Very dangerous.

I have lived in Alabama My entire life (over 50 years), and have never known of people to do this.

It must have been some morons from out of state.

That can be dangerous as well on the interstate with low visibility.... Better to exit if possible rather than pull onto the side and completely stop

Hell, in Houston I'm just glad when people turn their lights on when it's raining. So I'd rather hazards than no lights.

And the fact that Hazards are for STOPPED vehicles. You don't want to confuse moving and stopped vehicles that are in the distance.

That too,but I was trying to address the person that thought he was increasing visibility by using his flashers, when in fact,he is having a different effect on other drivers. It's messing up their vision.

It may keep somebody from hitting him,but they are more likely to be blinded to other things that they should be seeing, like stuff laying in the road,a car on the shoulder without lights flashing..stuff like that.

Did you even read the article? Rain is not one of the listed exceptions to illegality.

They are called hazard lights.

In a heavy arse downpour with no visibility one might would classify that situation as hazardous....

You're correct they are not there for increased visibility. They are there due to the presence of vehicular traffic hazard such as vehicles traveling less than 45 mph on the interstate in a blinding rain during the day.

They are not there just for stopped vehicles they are for any "vehicular taffic hazard requiring care in approaching, overtaking or passing."
