When school is out, I use the Hwy73 onramp to the interstate. If I leave the house before 7:30am, I get to work within 30 minutes.
Once school starts, I rarely take the interstate opting to drive hwy 30 into BR. that takes 30-40 mins. But watch out for those rolling toll booths better known as the St. Gabriel Police Dept.
drive time will depend on where you work. Fortunately for me I can take Nicholson and still be relatively close to work.

I sent my kid to Ascension Christian before we moved and was very happy with that school. Still have toes to the school and they provide a very solid education and it doesn't cost as much as some of the other private schools in the area.

What do BR private schools cost now?
I've got a teenager starting his sophmore year in private school here in Montgomery and I'll be paying +/- $18,000 this year for tuition only.
That doesn't include the "incidentals" for the multiple sports he plays or books, laptop, uniforms, etc.

If my kid is in primary school and my job is in BR, I might roll the dice with the magnets. If my kid is in high school, I'm moving him to St. Amant or Dutch Town.

Homeschool is a great option, and there are multiple curriculums that are available to support the material aspect of the education.

They are the #1 school system in the state because they only have 5 schools. They love to flaunt that nonsense. Pretty easy to be #1 when a lot of your clientele come from Baton Rouge because their parents would rather get a free education and buy a house that would cost a million in Baton Rouge for 400K in Zachary.
Zachary is like any other school that has its peak for a while...you cannot have it forever. I have a friend who pulled his kid out of Zachary and sent her to Sillman. Also, the Avenues didn't magically disappear, neither. There's some pretty hardcore crime happening there as of late.
And no Warren Drake.

I think just a trend in the direction of the city & schools.
For example: The city recently denied the school district a tax renewal which resulted in eliminating some programs and teachers.
A change in demographics has some shaken up.
I also saw Warren Drake has hired a couple of administrators from the school system. I'm not sure who they are but since they were handed picked by him I would think it will also affect their schools down the road.

Zachary has always had a large minority population.
Lol at the property value comparisons. I assume the person who said that isn't involved in real estate.
I know everyone loves to bag on Zachary schools for having "5" schools but they will continue being the top or one of the top systems in the state. And we have 7 schools.

We have a few years and private school is not completely out of the question but we are weighing the pros and cons of each option.
For me personally:
1. Catholic school (what every generation of my family has always done)
2. EBR magnet
3. Central
4. Zachary
5. Livingston
6. Ascension (F that drive)
