Not sure whether it should go here or on the Poli board, but it's been mentioned more than once about how Alabama is going all out to get out of state students...

Of course they are, even though it is really against everything a "state supported" public school should be about.

Didn't read article but amazing how much of a difference tuition is for in state versus out of state for almost all colleges

It is stupid. There is no reason college should cost anywhere near what it does for in-state students let alone the exorbitant out-of-state costs.

People pay it so there's no reason they should stop.

Thing about alabam and Louisiana is that LSU offers instate tuition to students from Alabama and Alabama offers instate tuition to students from Louisiana.

I looked at going to Auburn for a forest engineering degree, but quickly nixed that because out of state tuition was like $43k/yr. I'd rather stay in state and pay $7k/yr for a ME degree. No way in hell I'd spend that amount of money for a low grade public school education

Of course, we are. We'd be dumb not to recruit more money.

My son just graduated from Alabama. The reason Bama is 55% out of state students is because they have the most generous scholarship program in the United States of America. Most of the OOS students are high achievers on scholarship. A 32 ACT will get you full tuition for 4 years.
