I've been on Xanax for about 15 years. It saved me at one point in my life. I'm gonna ask my doc today to begin the process of weaning me off. Never once abused it, but I hope this isn't as difficult as I expect. Wish me the best, OT. Even prayers, if that's your thing.

Also, if anyone else has done this, I'd love to hear your experience.

It fricking sucks for about 2-3 weeks. You'll cut your dose in half for like a week, then take that half dose every other day for about a week, then nothing.

I was miserable.

Good luck though. As bad as it sucked, it was 100% worth it to get off that shite.

Just go slow and deliberate. If you start getting uncomfortable with the pace then ask the psychiatrist to slow it down.

I've never been on it but I would think that if you havn't abused it your withdrawal should be less severe than some of the horror stories you hear. Especially if you taper off properly.

Why are you getting off? What are the long-term negative effects of benzos? Bad for your liver? Kidney? Brain?

I’m not saying you shouldn’t get off at all—in fact, I applaud you. Just genuinely curious.

You'll be on a taper so withdrawals won't be bad. You will feel anxious though, I've been thru it with klonopin.

I've been taking 3 mg a day for 13 years.

I don't think I'll ever be able to get off of it.

I wish you the best.

Prayers and positive vibes sent your way.

I'm at a point where I don't feel like I need it anymore. It is a highly addictive drug, and I'd like to just remove it from my life, if I can.

Good luck. I’ve experienced wd’s from klonopin and it’s absolute hell.

I took 60mg of Cymbalta for about a year and decided to try and ween off. The physical effects weren't terrible. Just some headache, dizzy spells, maybe some fatigue. But it played into my health anxiety, which is why I was on it in the first place, so that was a little tough.

After about 2 months of gradually decreasing the dose I was off for about a month and a half but then started having a little anxiety again. I probably should have fought it longer but didn't want to get back to the place I was in where I started in the first place so I had the doctor give me the lowest dose and I take it once every 2 or 3 days. Been doing that for about 4 months and so far it's been going well. Knock on wood.

Good luck though, hope you are able to do it.
