I was in a small minor accident about eight weeks ago on Sherwood Forest Boulevard. The other driver changed lanes right into me and he hit me with his back left quarter panel.

There was minimal damage, but I still called BRPD. He took statements from both drivers and filed a report. Even though the other driver was clearly at fault for changing lanes right into me, the report was inconclusive and didn’t really show who was fully to blame. No ticket was given to the other driver.

We both have USAA insurance. He filed the initial claim three days after the accident. I received a notification from the app, so I called and gave them all of the information.

It turns out that the little fricker said he completely changed lanes, traffic slowed, and then I rear ended him.

With the police report being inconclusive, they were originally going with the accident as 100% my fault based on his lie. Luckily, I snapped pictures of the front of my car and the left rear of his car, and it clearly shows an impact on the back left corner of his car. I sent those into USAA.

Since he admitted to changing lanes (but lying about everything else) he can’t recant his story and say I changed lanes into him.

So, take pictures if you’re involved in a minor wreck or some lying piece of shite will try to lie about whose fault the wreck was to the insurance company.

No, but I’m surprised he didn’t try to pull that shite based on his story to USAA.

I'm surprised insurance companies don't push for dash cams

get a dashcam

This. I don't go anywhere in my old chevy without it plugged in and running, just for the reason the OP stated above. I consider it an extension of my insurance policy.

I wonder when all these new vehicle's parking cameras are going to start doubling as dash cams that store the footage in a cloud. That you can turn on and off of course. Not sure how I'd feel about that but I'd imagine its coming. As long as it can be turned off then frick it I guess.

Exact scenario happened to my wife the other day. As she’s never been in an accident before, she called and asked what to do. She thought I was being dramatic when I told her to snap pics (at the scene of the accident) of literally everything.

Or just get a dashcam and have it all on video.

My wife was involved in a three car wreck involving cars A,B and C. My wife was car A. The accident was caused by Car “C”.

Car “C” didn’t have insurance and told car “B” if you want your car fixed you better blame car “A” because I’m going to blame her and I don’t have insurance.

The physical evidence suggested my wife was hit but 2 different people claimed she did it. The evidence didn’t matter and my insurance paid out.

My vehicles now have dash cams front and back. This won’t happen again.

Before dash cams were a thing, I had a gopro on my windshield filming the drive out of Arches national park. I wound up slapping mirrors with a Class A motorhome who was across the line. I couldn't say where he was but was sure I was on my side. The fella was lying his a## off to the ranger investigating it. I told the ranger lets go to your office and download the video and I'll live with the results. The video showed I did drift over towards the middle, but his tire fully on my side of the yellow line kind of ruined it for the other guy. His wife made a call to our insurance and tried to make a claim. A quick emailed frame grab at the time took care of that. So yeah I'm a fan of the dash cams now.
