It's nice to get outside and sweat a bit. Miss me with scrubbing baseboards, dusting surfaces and washing/folding laundry.

In my house, cleaning house is for women. Cutting grass is for men.
So I cut the grass myself..and my wife hires a maid

Dual lesson. Wake him up at 6AM to mow to teach him some discipline and piss the neighbors off at the same time.

Maids are the biggest racket there is. Most of them will clean for maybe 2-3 hours. Vacuuming, mopping, wipe down some windows and maybe change the sheets and then charge like $150.
Most yard guys will spend 1.5 to 2 hours out in the fricking heat doing manual labor and charge like $65-$75. It’s fricking bullshite

My four boys all still live at home, and they do most of the yard work, if not all
They also help with the inside housework since they make most of the mess
My youngest daughter asked for a broom for her birthday when she was 3 - she’s always helped me sweep

Your wife/so agrees.

My son started at 9 cutting the back yard. It's not big but he gets it done. He's asked how to weed eat but I told him he can wait on that. He knows how to start the blower too.
Maybe next year he'll get on the riding mower and I'll just be down to trimming and edging.

I take pride in my grass.
I also take pride in not taking part in the growing phenomenon of "landscapers" taking up half of the street with their truck and trailer

my dad was pretty shrewd about stuff like that and bamboozled me into thinking that every new tool or gadget was special and you had to earn the right to use it

Middle school aged son got this first "paid" lawn job today actually, cutting a neighbors yard. He's been cutting ours the past 2 years. Just now trusting him to run the weed eater though as I was doing the weedeating and edging while he cuts in the past.
Next question for the OT: Do you pay your kid to cut the lawn? I feel like it's an earned allowance. I give him $20 if he just cuts, $30 if he weedeats/edges too.

My 12 yr. old son has been helping me and actually looks forward to it. I've always had to help him start the mower because the pull cord is almost even with his shoulder but yesterday he started it all by himself.
The only downside is the cup of water my wife used to bring to me now goes to him.

have her bring you a beer, problem solved

I agree. My son (9) helps and got pretty damn good at the zero turn. He is proud of his work. Him helping has given him confidence. It’s a slower process but worth it. When we are done, I get a beer for me, root beer for him and we chat about everything.

No, but he's also not begging me to buy him junk when we're in the grocery store checkout line when he can buy it himself now. He's also understanding the value of the dollar he earned as he doesn't waste it as much when it's his money that he worked hard for instead of him spending my money.
