Nothing to it. It’s so much easier than the old days. Some people mistakenly say “I’m gonna have a big steak and baked potato before prep.” To me, that’s making prep worse. Don’t add more.
I’ve done soup and sandwich two days before and it made the prep easier.
I strongly encourage everyone to get checked. Early detection is everything.

You starve all day long and then drink a gallon of stuff that tastes as bad as cat piss smells.

If you can't go a day with eating then you have a serious eating problem

It isn't that bad. Just don't do the mix from the Dr. Most know do the Miralax thing. 4 docolax, then every 15 min you drink a dose of miralax mixed with lime gatorade 8oz at a time and 8 times. then you take 4 more docolax. Follow it all with lots of water.

I used to be that way as well….one morning I sat down at my desk at work and had a stroke that changed my life.

Going to the doctor is inconvenient, but nothing they do to you really hurts at all.

The farts afterward were epic

I’m actually looking forward to this part. My friend took another one of our friends to get the procedure done many years ago. She said they had to sit in a room with other people just ripping arse the entire time and wouldn’t let them leave until the other friend farted enough

My brother passed away from colon cancer. If you have a family history start colonoscopy at age 40. Every 3 years if they find a polyp. We men tend to put this stuff off. It may kill you early in life and it’s preventable.

Cancer sucks.

I know this sounds stupid but how do you schedule one? I don't have a primary doctor. The rare times I have to go somewhere is just to an urgent care. Can they schedule one?

Agreed. I have to have one every 3 years. The prep isn’t fun but it’s no big deal and it can be , as you have pointed out, life saving

Drinking that damn clean out drink is the absolute worst

Just had my first one last month (47) and instead of the drink they gave me a pack of pills, I think they are called SuTab. I want to say it was 3 pills plus 8oz or water every 15 minutes for an hour and then the same thing again a few hours later.

They removed 2 small polyps for biopsy and both were benign. I go back in 5 years.

My biggest mistake was doing beef broth for lunch the day of the prep. My liquid shite smelled like hot beef broth.

I had one a few months ago. Prep was.t great but not that bad. I was kinda hungry.

Honestly the worst part was the frickinf IV. I think they had some trainee do it thr first time and it hurt like a bitch and didn't stop. I told them and a more experienced nurse had to red it.

The probing was fine

That's a good PSA OP.

I get them every three years because of polyps and family history with esophageal and colon cancer. Just had the upper GI and Colonoscopy done two weeks ago. Barrett's Esophagus and 7 polyps all came back benign.

Three years go by fast.

I had to start at 40 due to family history on both sides. Dr. Guidroz in BR offers the pill prep instead of drink…so much better!!

Good reminder! This and prostate checks are 2 things that some guys just seem to avoid. I’ve been getting them for 14 years now and no problems so far but I have cancer in my family so not gonna risk it.
I’ve had two friends older than me that both delayed colonoscopy and both regret it, one had stage 4 colon cancer about the size of a softball removed, took chemo and all kind of meds for over 2 years, it flared back up and spread unfortunately we lost him a few days ago.
The other friend is still hanging on, his is rectal so a hard fight to just keep existing.
Doctors said both would have probably been caught if they had regular scope test, neither had a colonoscopy in over 10 years,
So if you think you’d rather die, you may sure get your chance.

5 polyps were 'adenomatous' or precancerous. So Doc wants me to return in 3 years for another colonoscopy.

I'm early 40s and asked for a colonoscopy this year because I've always had bowel problems. They said they usually wait till 45 but went ahead with it due to my history. Found 3 "precancerous" polyps and I'm going back in 3 years for another probe. If I had waited till 45 to start getting colonoscopies, that likely would have been all she wrote. Since they found polyps, they had no problem getting it covered by insurance. I don't care about that though. I'd have paid out of pocket if I had to just to have that peace of mind.

It's not fun, but I'm sure it's better than colon cancer.

Not me baw. I have no issue with doctors. If I hurt, I get it fixed. If I think something may be wrong I have it looked at. If I can possibly avoid something bad with preventative visits, then I'm all about it. This is it...the one life you get. There is no do overs.

I would rather have a colonoscopy than a root canal.

So many people I know are being diagnosed with colon cancer, and every one of them neglected to get scoped.
