"they" is not just the retarded bunch of retirees with too mcuh time on their hands like shown in these videos. "They" is a legal entity with legally binding governing documents filed in court that gives the Assocaition the authoity to fine you, put a lien on your house, or file suit against you to take you to court to compel action against you.

It's funny that so many people think an HOA is just a bunch of old folks sending out meaningless letters that don't actually mean anything. An HOA serves a very real and very valid purpose, but as is the case with MANY things, they are typically only as useful as the actual human being people that are in charge of htem.

in theory HOAs are great

what theory is that

the entire, sole reason they exist at all, their entire purpose for being, is to maintain property values. That's it.

You may not care if your neighbor has grass up to his elbows, a chicken coop in the front yard, a few cars on blocks, and half his siding missing, but other people might care about that.

I like our HOA. They do a really good job of keeping our neighborhood nice. And they do it without all of the drama and power trips.

I have a $50 fine outstanding right now from my HOA for leaving my garbage can visible. I left it out for 2 days to put plants in the garage from one of the freezes this winter.

The can get that $50 from my cold dead hand.

I'm about to start sending fines to the HOA board members for weeds in their yards.

If you live under an HOA, you're just giving a gang of Karens another level of "government" to push on normal people.

We have one, but I think we're just lucky. We love it. Like $150 a month, they maintain our pool, swim team, tennis courts, playground, common area landscaping, street lights, etc.

They really only bitch at people for egregious yard neglect or cars parked on the street for multiple days, which is tough/dangerous in our neighborhood because of some narrow windy roads.

They also organize really fun events on 4th of July, security for Halloween, etc.

think most are dependent on the people who make up the board. Unfortunately a little power makes some people crazy

Yeah we have some normal dudes on ours that joined to prevent that from happening. A very logical group that I think balances out any potential "Karens".

Our treasurer is a 40 year old retired Tech CFO that has nothing else to do and is a cool guy that sunset cruises in his golf cart with a cocktail like 5 days a week

I can agree with what you are saying, to an extent. if my pets are exclusively inside and never go outside - why the frick would I want some outside person to dictate what I have in a house I am paying for.

it doesnt. the rule isnt really for that. its for the people that have 4 dogs barking all the time, roaming the neighborhood shitting in yeards etc

its for the people that let their cat out to roam, climb on everything and shite everywhere or for the cat lady who has 18 cats etc.

I’m willing to bet whenever she was a kid and went swimming, she did lots of splashing just like every other kid has done in the history of mankind

Was doing a job at a condo in Gulf Shores after Ivan years ago. The chief inspector came out and shut all the elevators down because they weren't up to code and the HOA was behind on bills. The president lived on the property and got in a shouting match with the guy. N-bombs were dropped and a gun was pulled by the lunatic. Luckily no one got killed

I long to be far away from anything resembling an HOA.

How can it be not okay to allow your dog to roam a residential neighborhood but people are quick to let their cat out to go shite in the neighbor’s flowerbed and walk on their vehicles.
