Last year around Halloween my tire got a flat when I struck a Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup some a-hole hid a nail in.

Annoying as hell. Same problem in my LX.

Because you should not be waiting on another man to come save you. That assistance is for ladies only.

It would be smarter to carry a $20 inflater.

Those are great for a cold front. The OP is correct about the spares. Construction workers DGAF and people get nails all the time. A compressor won't help that.

I believe the point might have been that you could top off your mushy spare before putting it on if you were carrying around the compressor.

I have my spare checked at every tire rotation anyway.

Check your Spare Tire
Good advice, but following experiences after Hurricane Katrina I started carrying a serious compressor and plug kit with good quality T handle tools in all vehicles.
Not that kind of guy to wait on the side of the road for someone to come rescue me.

Nothing wrong with it per se, but I can change a spare in 10 minutes or I can wait two hours for someone to arrive on the side of the highway to change it for me.

Depends on where I am. If it's on I-85 around Atlanta or I'm stuck crossing through some ghetto, I'll wait for backup. Ain't trying to get run over or shanked. Or both.

I have a compressor that has the “slime” bottle attached.
Some tire inflation sensors are ruined by the Fix-A-Flat and Slime products. Check your manual and/or manufacturer for details. Those sensors are not cheap and the labor to do the work is also not cheap.

for real - almost had to learn this the hard way.

the wife and I were out of town last Thursday for our 10th Anniversary, and we discovered one of our tires had the steel belt showing right where the Sidewall met the rest of the tire. turns out the Spare was shite, so we had to limp up the road and get a replacement tire.

how it didn't pop on the interstate on the drive up was beyond me, but i was glad it didn't.

The spare tire in my 88 5.0 mustang is still good

If it's original to the car, it most certainly ain't good.

I really like that mine has a sensor in it that tells me when it gets low just like the regular tires.

Does that sensor check for dry rot? Nope. Nothing replaces an actual physical inspection, especially since some vehicle have exterior mounted spares. Spares are often mounted in such a way that damage from abrasion on supporting surfaces occurs, also not something any sensor will detect unless it wears a hole completely through a sidewall.

I had a flat a few years ago. It wasn't until then that I realized that some a-hole had stolen it off the bottom of the truck at some point.

I second this advice. I had a wheel (not a tire) fail on my truck hauling my big truck camper cross-country, last month. I hadn’t looked at my spare wheel (I sort of glanced the tire from the back) in ages. It was very rusted out. It ended up holding but after a long debacle that added two days (+) to my trip.

shite I don’t have one on two of my rides. Some newer cars aren’t coming with them now days.

My son called me about a month ago with a flat and asked me where his spare was. I thought he meant where did I put it LOL. I told him to look in the trunk under the carpet. He had...car did not have a spare tire from the factory LOL. Bad enough to have a donut but no spare at all is some old bullshite...

I avoid having to drop my spare tire on my truck at all costs. I carry a plug kit and a compressor with me.

cars and trucks today all have TPS sensors that tell you when one is low on air.

unless your driving a 40 year old vehicle, you dont need to do this

I had a flat on on the interstate a few weeks ago. Decided to get a free tow from insurance and let Discount Tire replace it for free. It was 104 and I wasn't in the mood to change it.

Stuck on the road for at least 1 1/2 hours. None react as quickly as you would like.

Also, some are not as cheap as you like.

Depending on your coverage, this could be through your auto insurance or through a club like AAA. Some have deductibles or specific rules that limit towing to a certain number of miles.

Even though I pay for it through State Farm I don’t think I ever used it unless it was used to cover a tow after an accident.
