I would guess that they are used to dealing with the Yankee "men" that have no idea how to do much of anything around the house and/or are lazy.

More likely used to dealing w people wanting their baby daddy Uncle Sam to do it

It would be great to see drone footage of the recovery efforts and show people how we respond. In the neighborhoods I've been in, just getting through is a challenge due to the sheer number of people trying to get in and help.

There are great people around here.

Well most of the homes that were damaged were working class families. Not the projects like New Orleans after Katrina. Maybe that had something to do with it....just saying.

First of all the people who live in the projects don't own the project so why would they gutt them out. Second poor people rent and don't own so they have no reason to go back to fix homes that aren't for them. Third the entire city was flooded not just the poor areas. So those rich and working class people who owned the home during Katrina didn't do shite and waited around.

Tell that to all of the Yankee coal miners, dock workers, construction workers, farmers, etc.

Can you get the contact info for the disaster relief crew and post it? I know of several families that don't have enough help and need it. Especially in the Livingston and Ascension rural areas.

Yeah. My family is built off German immigrants who moved to Michigan and Minnesota as lumberjacks. I lived in the home my grandfather built. Our cottage on Deer Lake was also built solely by my family.

my neighbors had a disaster crew from Michigan doing cleaning work yesterday

was talking to their crew leader. He said he's never been to a disaster site where the residents had done so much of the work already. They said they usually have to come in and do all the sheet rock and insulation removal, he was blown away and what the people have done

And we still won the war. What does that say about southern men?

It's in our ballpark. We have to behave most of the time, but we really like to tear shite up.

In regards to the differences between "yankees" and "what we do down here"

Im from NY (just outside NYC). I assure you there are plenty of capable hands willing to do blue collar work just like down here

The difference is the willingness to help your neighbor/friend. I would be doubtful that many NYers would have spent the previous 7 days going to clean up homes of anyone other than their absolutely closest friends or family. Whereas in SELA you are looked down upon if you aren't helping someone out right now.

GLT, it says the Union population was something like 8x the Confederacy.

I think the record shows the Grays enjoyed better fighting spirit despite being poorly equipped, and command and tactics were often as not superior. The North simply wore us out with superior numbers and materiel.

The Amish/Mennonite people in MS are a group that will get some shite done after a disaster. I have seen them in MS after tornadoes. They will have the roofs repaired and new shingles installed before most people can find a place to buy a tarp for their roof.

I don't know how they get in touch to summon all the help. Must be some secret smoke signal magic but horses and buggies will roll

I evacuated to very rural parish for hurricane Gustav. It was like moving to Mayberry USA. The winds had barely died down and it was amazing to see all of the farmers, their families,. teens, farmhands and everyone else out moving trees off the road to clear a path for the elect crews to get thru. They had tractors, atvs,, trucks, dump wagons, etc.

We also had hot food and good sammiches for the crews on duty restoring our electricity.

What we're all missing here is that a disaster crew from MICHIGAN came down to help out Louisiana folk.

Now Bammers and other Bammerish people are declaring that everybody from north of their trailer is lazy.

Might want to remind yourself where Michigan is.
