its a bit more than disagreeing. The fact that none of you can see that is sad.

For all the talk about "winning" on this board, you guys sure do love losers and their statues for finishing 2nd

I can see why people wouldn't want a confederate memorial on government property because it could be seen as an endorsement (of slavery, rebellion, etc) by our government.
Personally I think these people need to have thicker skin though. I also think the people who are whining about the statue removal need to have thicker skin.
I disagree with their methods of removing the statue though. They should have gone through proper channels.

reminds me of how the Taliban in Afghanistan blew up all the statues of Buddha,
You're comparing the removal of 100 year old statues memorializing a failed government to enormous stone statues of Buddha that were erected thousands of years ago?
Hmm.

If the south had won, country would be a better place for everyone.

Agreed on this
Tearing it down in the cover of night is not as satisfying as every news channel stopping to cover the removal of these statues, while all the muh statues crybabies watch helplessly

It's mob rule. I'd be ok with it if the citizens voted to have it taken down. The fact that authorities allow it to happen like this is disturbing and sets a terrible precedent. Imagine if people started tearing down the Malcolm X statue in Harlem because he was a racist. There would be 24x7 news coverage on CNN.

There seems to be a lot of slippery slope arguments being tossed around in here. Some of these people failed philosophy.

That's a stretch. Germany teaches all about WW2 and the holocaust.
I don't think it's really out of the realm. I'm not saying they will remove civil war related material but rather put a political spin on the material. These people make everything a moral argument and if you give them any push back, you're a racist/nazi/supremacist. They have a vested interest in destruction of societal structures so they can insert their own. Little things like this always seem fairly benign, but the 30,000 ft view is much different. It's the beginning of a progressive puritanism movement.

It's on private property.

You have ancestors that were unamerican as frick and fought against everything that is America. they have ancestors that were owned and treated as property. But no, your feelings are more important.

If adults think that having one of those statues on govt property equates to endorsing slavery, then they have some serious issues with logic.

The issue is that they feel as if once they declare something as a harm to society, they feel it is an obligation to destroy it. If you don't or if you think there are shades of grey, then they believe you endorse whatever they're against. There is no middle ground in this movement. You're either an angel or Hitler.

I completely agree that mobs public (and private) property is always wrong, but comparing tearing down confederate statues to book burning is misguided.
I don't blame blacks for not wanting to live in a city with shrines to people who fought to keep their ancestors enslaved. Not to mention the traitor aspect of it.

Wasn't Islam deemed an inferior religion..what it's done to people in the past, is it ok to tear down a mosque because you don't like what it stood for?

Progressive ideology is predicated on destroying prevailing culture and cultural norms.
I know this sounds like nonsense to many of you, but I'm telling you this is setting a precedent for some disturbing ideology and tactics. Apathy for destruction of anything deemed controversial is something that gives them latitude to do what they want.
