Democrats put up that statue

This is a very underrated post.

Yeah, if you are an idiot that doesn't know about the shift of the parties in the era of Nixon and Dixiecrats.

Maybe so. Still does not change the fact that filthy Democrats erected the statue.

Slavery is racist while destroying a nation of American Indians is ok in the name of progress.

Stealing land from people who settled the land before anyone else was here, forcing them on reservations, and raping their women is ok!

They need to destroy the rock hill which the crazy horse monument which is still under construction is. It only represents the American Indians and since they are losers they do deserve a monument!

Unfortunately, it is history and things that were unfair what has made this country! Now they want to erase history?

Soros is a huge Piece of shite, but:

Here is something i don't understand, why are there so many Confederate Statues??? They weren't Heroes

The Northern States don't have General Grant/Northern Generals statues in every Major City.

These Statues should of never been erected in the town halls/gardens/etc of Cities, they should be in Confederate museums and in Confederate soldiers gravesides/cemeteries.

No matter how Southerners try to rewrite history in their own minds, these guys were NEVER heroes of this Country.

Also, destroying them is not how you change things, you do like in NO,St.Louis,etc. You move them, so they can be taken some where, where people who want to enjoy them can. St.Louis gave their memorial dealio to some Confederate dealio, it is going into a museum with other confederate and civil war stuff.

I still cannot believe our country is warring over f'in statues of Confederate Soldiers and Generals.

I'm really trying to make sense of what you typed

Anyway, slavery and the treatment of Indians was grossly inappropriate

Having a monument to crazy horse is not remotely similar to having a monument to confederates. A monument to Custer, would be more similar to confederates

Way to paint with a broad brush, dipshit. As a leftist, should I assume that you are a pacifier sucking, jealous, and mad at the world SJW that is on welfare or living with his parents?

I tried to explain it earlier in the thread, so I'll just repost it.

I'll attempt to try to explain the attachment to statues, though it's kind of hard for me to fully explain it.

The civil war was something that affected every family in country, some more than others. However the Union enacted a scorched earth policy against southerners that not only destroyed their homes but also humiliated them as a people for decades after the war (Reconstruction). They were also taken advantage of by many from the north that came south and sought to profit from these people broken from years of war and poverty.

Once they were finally able to steer their own ship again, I suspect they were not only trying to regain their identity but also honor those that they fought alongside or for. They were simply looking for the "honor in defeat" that they thought they never received. I believe they wanted to have some semblance of their rebel spirit preserved in some way, shape, or form and these statues and monument are the avenue they chose.

I think the issue we deal with today is that we constantly try to look at these figures or monuments through the lens of our 21st century ideals which can be a silly thing to do.

The federal government forgave and pardoned these figures. That should hold a good deal of weight when we put this into context.

Some of those democrats are. The shift of the South to the Republican party had more to do with the Dixiecrats stance on a smaller government than it did with the Civil Rights issues. What you and those who throw out the strawman argument of Dixiecrats can't explain is why they would swap parties to the party that voted for all of the Civil Rights issues? It would be like the entirity of the Westborro Baptist Church swapping to the Democratic party because the Dems were in a large majority for same sex marriage. The dixiecrat argument is modern day democrats trying to absolve their party of any wrongdoing during an era where they were on the wrong side of history. Also Robert Byrd was a big part of the Democratic party into the 2000s that alone kills the theory that Dems are free of blame. For 100 years Dems were on the wrong side of history and have over the last 20 years pushed the narrative at times to extremes to never do so again, own it. The last KKK member to own a seat in the federal government was a heralded member who drew praise from HRC, Bill, and Obama for helping shape the Democratic party and for being a mentor to the party's elite.

I'm all about equality and against racism but it's a God Damn statue. If you don't like it don't look at it! People need to grow up and quit being so sensitive!

I've been saying for a while that those will be targeted next.

If they can justify tearing down a public statue via angry mob, then they can justify all sorts of things.

Straw man argument? The southern strategy and the dixiecrats literally happened. It's not some fake leverage used in arguments. Republicans started poaching off democrats in the south angry about the Civil Rights act. Strom Thurmond, a big time racist, changed from a D to an R, and was treated like a golden God in the GOP. Robert Byrd would at least have a change of heart regarding race in the 1980's.

I don't see anyone around the world looking to destroy the concentration camps that killed millions of Jews. It's history not good history but history. Learn from poor judgements don't act like they never happened.

They didn't erect a statue of Hitler outside of it though.

I will explain it: It's about showing some RESPECT!

By most estimates there were something like 300,000 kileed, wounded, or died from disease or privation. It's not about defending the ideals of the Confederacy. It's about a remembrance of those who died.

I think that's where some people are misguided. They think these monuments were created and erected by some foreign entity. They were erected by people who's families lost almost everything in the war. The problem is that we're trying to attach our 21st century pc values to monuments that were created to remind people of a very somber time in this region's history where the land and the people were completely destroyed. Commemorating tragic loss should't be deemed evil.

So you'd be fine with Hitler Statues in Germany?
