I have some property in Woodville and pass through that area often when I'm heading up there. Tons of construction on 59/69 right now so it is a shite show of epic proportions.
I've never liked Kingwood myself, but it suits some people. For 10-15 acres you will definitely have to branch out your search.
As far as the "meth" thing, I think that is unfortunately a thing that has become part of living out on a big piece of property. Hell, there are busts in Woodville quite often but I've never seen or heard anything. You have enough land and you'll be insulated from it.

This....I used to live in KW as you might be able to tell by my screen name. We have friends that live in the Oakhurst area, and it is pretty nice. You aren't going to find large chunks of land though.

We live in Kingwood and love it.
Great schools, nice people... very safe community that has a small town feel. Demographics are also extremely favorable.
You are coming at a good time, housing is reasonably affordable and there are some pretty cool projects on the way.
Here is one that is currently underway, they essentially bought, forced the residents to move out in a few months, and bulldozed the last apartment complex in the heart of Kingwood to make room for this:
Massive HEB + restaurants
Great schools, nice people... very safe community that has a small town feel. Demographics are also extremely favorable.

-Virtually no crime
-Good Schools
-Best commute from a suburb to downtown in town
-Tons of LA people, shortest drive back to LA from Houston

-15 min from IAH
Cons:
-Not a lot to do, least developed suburb
-Probably an older median age than most Houston neighborhoods
I really do think KW will become significantly more popular in the next 10 years as there just isn't a ton of other places to develop in Houston without damn near going an hour outside of town. I think in general the east side of town is the next blow up area. EaDo is expanding, the east side of the beltway has all kinds of stuff going up and I think Kingwood will follow that trend.

There is a Wally World in Atascocita and its a much better option than going to Porter. However there is a Target across the street.

Kingwood is nice & quiet but you'll have trouble finding that much land. Most houses in Kingwood are older & not much in the way of new builds unless you head north of Northpark or between 1960 & the beltway along West Lake Houston (which isn't technically Kingwood). Good schools & good people. Traffic on the main roads can get a little heavy during peak times but that's a given anywhere around Houston. A hair over 2 hours to LC & not a bad drive (we make it all the time). Not much in the way of nightlife/entertainment but you can always go into Houston for that. Open up a Darrell's here & you'll be rich.

I did drive through on 1960 around Humble/Atascocita a couple of years ago though...a lot had changed

Everybody calls it "The Porter Wal-Mart" and not just wal-mart. That should tell you something. It is an event to go there.

Kingwood is pretty much maxed out as far as developments go. I imagine the last area to develop will be the tract in the very back that basically runs toward Porter. The one area that I do love that you can find a lot of house for the money is Kingwood Cove.
Oakhurst and that area will probably be more high profile though as they build out along the 59 corridor between Humble and New Caney.

I understand, I just think it will become more popular, still plenty of room to add entertainment/retail and stuff in the area. I actually like that the neighborhood has natural borders, should help property values go up in the future. My house has already almost doubled in value in 5 years.

The Grand Parkway is going to bring in more retail once it's done and open more development up north of Kingwood. Porter is growing and will keep growing because of this as well as New Caney and Splendora. Finding land will be tougher and more expensive.

Schools are excellent, green belt trails that connect most of the neighborhoods. It consists of 10-12 subdivisions that vary in age and price range. Most of the homes were built in the 70s-90s. There are a few areas at the front of Kingwood that have larger lots (Forest Cove) but dont have 12 acres that you are looking for. There is a place called The Commons which is located in HUffman that is across lake Houston that has acreage lots for sale (probably not 12 acres) but you wont get the Kingwood schools.
