1960 is the only way. Kingwood drive picks back up in the Commons but there is no bridge linking the two.

How's the area just south of Grangerland? I see that it's close to Conroe and has larger tracks of land broken up. Is that considered Porter?

Pros: Great public schools (Kingwood High School is a fantastic school that really prepares its students for college and subsequently the real world), 2 very nice golf courses (Tin Cup was filmed at one), No income tax (however, property taxes are higher because those are what fund the public schools). That being said, the nicer areas with higher property taxes=way better schools than out in the more rural areas. You're 15 minutes from Bush Intercontinental, 15 minutes from Beltway 8, 20 Minutes from 610 Loop, 5-10 minutes from Highway 59 (depending on where you live in Kingwood, front or back), 25-30 minutes from Downtown and all of the activities there, and they're constructing the Grand Parkway (170 mile loop connecting you to all of Houston). I moved from Baton Rouge to Kingwood in elementary school, and I really enjoyed growing up here.

Cons: As stated before, just north it gets kind of trashy, and Kingwood is in itself a "bubble" of sorts. This can be a good or bad thing, just depends on how you look at it. Traffic can be a bitch if you're coming from Downtown, but they do have the Metro Bus system that has a hub in Kingwood that you can just hop on and blaze past the traffic in the HOV lane. Hours run pretty liberally depending on your work schedule. Also, Kingwood is part of Harris County (Houston Metropolitan) so you have to deal with whatever Houston decides you deal with (including police, fire, ambulance, taxes, etc.). There's also not a lot to do for teenagers, as it stays fairly quiet. So as long as you're okay with your kids eventually getting to the point where the only fun thing to do is drive around and get stoned, then its PERFECT!

All in all, it's a great place to live for families and retired-age folks, but Houston is so big, there are an infinite list of places that would be suitable. Good Luck!

Thank God. If you look at the map of Canes in Houston they are everywhere except the NE side of town. It's still like 20 minutes away, but it'll do. Thanks!

I've heard about Cypress Creek Crossing in that area. North Channel is just outside of 610 and just north of I-10. Try to stay away from Deer Park if you can (all of the refineries can make for a nasty smell at times). There are new developments popping up all over the place now that the Grand is being built, but if you stay near 610 you're okay. I don't know much about East Houston, never found myself outside of the aforementioned "bubble"

Traffic. Kingwood Dr. and West Lake Houston Pkwy are fricking nightmares.
