Exactly. That's the point of groups like TAF.

This is really crossing a line. What if she thinks pro athletes make too much money? Will she try to limit their salaries? Then that way the owners of the teams will be able to not have to pay as much so you limit the pay of the players while the owners are only able to get richer? This is insane.

It's not insane. I'm 100% in support of the government paying more attention to their finances. The "problem" is it's not the government footing these bills.

This seems like an issue for state legislatures for state universities. Private universities everyone piss off.

Yep this about sums it up. Might have good, taxpayer-saving intentions in mind but this is a very poorly researched proposal. DOA

It's pretty amazing really

Shalala is the physical embodiment of the counterargument to "colleges don't need to spend all that money on coaches to have success in athletics"

That she's the one carrying the banner is just... *chef's kiss*

Since we are talking Florida representatives, I felt this video is appropriate to post.

I really want to believe elected officials do understand this and are just yammering about something they know will get them attention but has no chance of actually passing. But unfortunately, its also very likely they're just fricking idiots.

Notice they don't go after the exorbitant salaries of some actors and musicians (mostly because they are part of the Dem's voting and donation base).

ISn't this the lady who was the president of the University of Miami (Fl) during their athletic downturn. Likely because she completely de-emphasized their athletics.

Impossible. As most of them are of black descent, they deserve that money. They are less powerful, therefore there is not such a thing as “too much money.”

It's not difficult to pull the pay stub of a coach in a state school, but that would require one to actually seek the truth.

Which actors and musicians are employed by state-funded entities?

This is the mistake I probably make. I assume these elected officials know what they are talking about when they make statements or want to take action against something.

Which college coaches' salaries are both exorbitant and sourced mainly from public funds?

John McCain was trying to get support to federally impose limits on airline pilot salaries back in the late 90s, I'm shocked that I didn't get a knock on my door after the email I sent him, and his son is a pilot for us

Wait.. I remember watching some show about Nevin Shapiro. Was she the president at Miami who accepted his donations?

It is at some schools. Not all athletic departments are self-sufficient like LSU and other P5 programs. Many operate in the red and spend public money.
